'To stay in touch with them is very important': Nicole Kidman says text messages and internet help preserve bond with adopted children Connor, 20, and Isabella, 22

Nicole Kidman has insisted she relies on modern technology to stay in constant touch with the two children she adopted during her 11-year marriage to Tom Cruise.

The former couple adopted Isabella, 22, and 20-year-old Connor in 1992 and 1995 respectively prior to their separation and subsequent divorce in 2001.

But while Nicole, 48, has since remarried to fellow Australian Keith Urban, with whom she is a parent to daughters Sunday, seven, and five-year-old Faith, she insists her children with Cruise are still a constant in her life.

Speaking to DuJour magazine, the actress – who owns homes in Nashville and Sydney – says she relies on technology to stay in touch with the pair, who reside in Los Angeles.

‘I have four children, so to stay in touch with them is very important,’ she said. ‘I’m definitely engaged in it but I don’t let it rule my life.

‘My husband and I never text each other. We never do. Once in a blue moon, we’ll text. But mainly we say, “I want to hear your voice.”

She added: ‘That’s very unusual but we’ve been together for 10 years. We started like that and we haven’t changed it. We don’t email each other either. So it’s about trying to keep it as intimate and personal as possible.'

Both Connor and Isabella have embraced Tom's belief in Scientology, with the religion cited as a wedge between Nicole and her children in director Alex Gibney's hard-hitting documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.

The Church of Scientology have since denied the claims, while Nicole has previously refuted speculation of a divide prompted by her children's religious leanings.

Speaking to Vanity Fair in 2013, she said: 'I've chosen not to speak publicly about Scientology. I have two children who are Scientologists—Connor and Isabella—and I utterly respect their beliefs.'

The Honolulu born star is currently back in London for a run in West End play Photograph 51 - almost a year after her psychologist and biochemist father Dr. Antony Kidman died suddenly last September.

Reflecting on the tragedy earlier this year, Nicole said her young daughters with Urban were responsible for helping her to get over his death and focus on the present.

She told the August issue of US Vogue magazine: 'Just hearing their laugh . . . it's life in its most powerful form.'

And Nicole also revealed that she wishes she had met Urban, 47, earlier in life so they could have had more children together.

She said: 'I wish I could have met him much earlier and had way more children with him. But I didn't. I mean, if I could have had two more children with him, that would have been just glorious. But as Keith says, "The wanting mind, Nicole. Shut it down.''
