Rock on! Bindi Irwin takes out top spot on US Dancing With the Stars scoreboard after dancing to her late dad Steve's favourite AC/DC song You Shook Me All Night Long

She might be competing on the US version of Dancing with the Stars, but Bindi Irwin paid tribute to her Australian roots by rocking out to the AC/DC classic You Shook Me All Night Long.

Wearing a black rock-chick-inspired gown, an emotional Bindi, 17, told host Tom Bergeron how her late dad - Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin - had loved the tune and how she remembered dancing to it with him at Australia Zoo.

Appearing to be on the verge of tears, Bindi said 'I remember when I was really little, dancing to that song with dad. It means everything to me,' as the camera cut to an equally emotional Terri Irwin in the audience.

A pre-recorded segment also showed Bindi talking about her connection to the tune, saying 'That's what my mom and dad especially, would listen to. I was so little and so happy.'

The song was a fitting choice for the Hometown Glory-themed shows, which saw the couples perform routines dedicated to the celebrity's hometowns.

The Australian teenager secured the highest score of the night as she performed the brilliant dance.

Before her dance Bindi explained how she is surrounded by wild animals at Australia Zoo and is woken up each morning by the growl of tigers and monkeys howling.

The youngster’s mother, Terri Irwin told the cameras how her Australian hometown ‘is really where her heart lies.’

Bindi revealed to partner Derek that her favorite music was heavy metal as they decided to set their tango to the legendary Australian hard rock band.

‘It is so empowering,’ she told Derek as she rocked out in the dance studio.

‘That is what my mom and dad would listen to. I was so little then and so happy with my family in the middle of the zoo.

'That is what I remember most and associate most with that kind of music,’ she said.

The couple then hit the dance floor to the band’s famed guitar licks, ending the dance with the rock n roll hand signs.

Host Tom Bergeron asked Bindi how emotional it had been dancing to one of her dad’s favorite songs.

‘I remember when I was really little dancing to that song with dad so it means everything to me,’ she said with a big smile on her face.

Judge Julianne Hough said that Bindi was one of the most bubbly people she had ever met but had a ‘fiery, feisty little rock star’ in her.

‘That is exactly what you showed tonight and it was so fun. Overall I loved it,’ said Julianne.

Bruno said the Aussie teen was ‘turning into Mad Max’ as he called the performance ‘absolutely surprising.’

‘What can i say? You guys saw that, did she rock your world or what?’ said judge Carrie Ann Inaba.

Carrie Ann gave the couple a nine, Julianne gave them an eight as did Bruno for a total of 25 out of 30.
