Burberry unveils most wearable collection yet full of lace trench coats and silk slip dresses in front of star-studded front row

  • Show, titled Function Regalia, opened with performance by Alison Moyet
  • Trenches were given a summer makeover and came in lace
  • Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne and Benedict Cumberbatch sat in front row

If you needed any proof that the Burberry Prorsum show is fashion week's hottest ticket, just cast your eyes over the glittering front row.

From Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne to Benedict Cumberbatch and Samantha Cameron, the frow at Monday's spring/summer 16 show was something to behold.

But it wasn't just the roll call of Tinseltown's finest creating a buzz; the clothes on the catwalk were just as impressive and it's safe to say  that Christopher Bailey has the most wearable collection yet on his hands.

Titled Function Regalia, the spring/summer 16 show in Kensington Gardens opened to the dulcet sounds of British singer, Alison Moyet, who performed four songs live from the centre of the runway.

Burberry's chief creative officer, Christopher Bailey, is famed for his ability to reinvent trends whilst still staying true to their more-than-a-century-old heritage - and he did it this season by looking to the heritage brand's archives and putting a springtime spin on the classics.

The iconic trench coat, which is beloved by celebrities, came lightweight for spring/summer with a slim fit and intricate macramé lace or gold cording ideal for the warmer months.

Elsewhere, the duffle coat came in soft satin, whilst the Pea coat was nautical in style.

Renowned for introducing a key cult item each season (last time around it was the field sneaker and those ponchos), Bailey today unveiled the rucksack, which everyone will be having monogrammed with their initials before slinging over their backs in the coming months.

For evening accessorising, there's a belt bag - which is an adaptation of a small officer’s shoulder bag from the Burberry archive - in both oblong and square.

Footwear came courtesy of cutout ankle boots - as seen on Cara Delevingne - which will no doubt be replicated by the likes of New Look and River Island come spring.
