Pope Francis was greeted by President Obama and the First Family as he landed in Washington on Tuesday for his first visit to the United States. It signals the start of a five-day tour across D.C., New York and Philadelphia for the 78-year-old Roman Catholic leader, coinciding with the United Nations summit which will see more than 100 world leaders arrive in New York. In a rare move, the president was on the tarmac with his wife Michelle, their daughters Malia and Sasha, and Michelle's mother Marian Robinson to meet the pontiff at Joint Base Andrews at 4pm (Eastern Time).

Israeli forces shot dead a female Palestinian attacker after she attempted to stab a soldier at a West Bank checkpoint on Tuesday, as tensions continued to simmer ahead of this week's major Jewish and Muslim holidays. The woman later died of her injuries.The military said forces opened fire and 'identified a hit' following the incident in the West Bank city of Hebron.The woman was identified as 18-year-old university student Hadeel al-Hashlamon. She was taken to an Israeli hospital in critical condition and her father, Salah al-Hashlamon, said she later died of her injuries. The soldier was not wounded.

Jaromir Jagr, 43, was captured on camera in bed next to an 18-year-old model from the Czech Republic when she took a selfie (left) of them snuggled up under the covers while he dozed in the background. The model, Catherine from Moravia, allegedly attempted to blackmail Jagr for $2,000 and threatened to publish the photo. He said 'I don't care'. After it leaked on social media, Jagr fans began creating their own versions of the photo (right). Jagr is the idol of Czech junior player Dominik Rudl - Catherine's boyfriend (seen together in inset).

Donald Trump dodged the question Tuesday night that put him in the center of America's political stage four years ago during an appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. 'Barack Obama: Born in the United States?' Colbert asked him. The host called the question a 'big fat meatball' that Trump could put behind him once and for all, but The Donald wouldn't take the bait. 'I don't talk about that any more,' the Republican front-runner replied, deflecting the conversation toward election-year issues. 'I talk about jobs. I talk about our veterans being horribly treated. I just don't discuss it any more.'

Drug boss Martin Shkreli (left), 32, allegedly gained access to social media accounts belonging to that ex-employee, and contacted him and his relatives directly, accusing the employee of fraud. 'Your husband had stolen $1.6 million from me and I will get it back. I will go to any length necessary to get it back,' Shkreli allegedly wrote the wife of former Retrophin employee Timothy Pierotti (right, with wife Kristen) in a January 2013 letter, according to court documents obtained by Daily Mail Online. Shkreli, founder and CEO his current company, Turing Pharmaceuticals, hit headlines after purchasing Daraprim - which is used to treat life-threatening parasitic infections - in August for $55million, and raising the price of the drug from $13.50 per tablet to $750. Today, just hours before the harassing court case was revealed, Shkreli announced he would lower the price of the drug to make it 'more affordable'. He did not reveal the new price.

NEW Gifford's will was filed last week in Greenwich Probate Court in Connecticut and names Lee as executor of the estate, with reign over what to give kids Cody, 25, and Cassidy, 22. Page Six reports that while the estate was valued in court documents at $10 million, Gifford's Greenwich waterfront home is worth $22 million, while a Key Largo property is worth a further $2.5 million. Out of the total estate, about $2 million was to be divided up between his three children from his first marriage to college sweetheart Maxine Avis Ewart. Victoria Gifford, 58, of Washington, DC, and son Jeffrey Gifford, 63, of Nevada, were given $500,000 each. Kyle Gifford, 60, who was severely injured in a car crash, was left $1 million in a trust fund.

Kristen Mundell was reduced to tears by the police officers' actions during her wedding this weekend. Her father, Pierce County Sheriff's Deputy Kent Mundell (inset) died in 2009, when Mundell was just 16. Family friend and Seattle Police Detective Don Jones walked Mundell down the aisle and was the first officer to dance with the stunning bride during the reception. Three other officers joined the dance in which Mundell was reduced to tears.

Rapper Azealia Banks launched a foul mouthed tirade on a flight attendant, pictured right, and tried to physically attack a man, pictured left, after she was unable to get off of a plane. The 24-year-old, pictured inset, was attempting to disembark the jet when it landed in LA on Monday night, but could not leave because a French couple were blocking her path. The other passengers were getting their luggage out of the overheard storage - but Azaelia wanted to get off immediately without any hold ups.

Fidel Lopez (right), 24, of Sunrise, Florida, has admitted to brutally killing his girlfriend, 31-year-old Maria Nemeth (left), and mutilating her body by inserting foreign objects into her cavities until she bled and pulling out internal tissue while she was passed out from drinking tequila.

A former US Army Ranger from Florida named Michael had his estranged wife, 37-year-old Corinne Novak (inset), arrested for battery after sharing with deputies a video from his GoPro camera (pictured center) showing her assaulting him during a custody exchange.

Kathy Baker, 49 (inset), the Chief Financial Officer at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, was taking a resistance training class in Livermore when the 80-year-old woman plowed through the front glass doors around 6.20 a.m. Tuesday. The driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake, police said, and barreled 60 feet through the gym before crashing into a wall. Seven were taken to hospital, where Baker was later died. She was a respected employee of Lawrence Livermore who had worked at the lab since 2001. She was made CFO in 2012. Her husband, Jeff Baker, who also works at the lab, described her as 'the most wonderful, caring person you've ever met'.

Steve Harvey was left speechless by a contestant on a recent episode of Family Feud. The daytime host and funnyman, who is never at a loss for words, was shocked when one contestant offered a completely unexpected answer when asked; 'Tell me the last thing you put your finger in. Surrounded by his family, the contestant, Kevin, told Harvey; 'My wife.'

A woman in Cork, Ireland, has captured eery footage of 'paranormal activity' occurring in her home, after household objects began flying around her kitchen. Loud crashes can be heard as the video shows metal bowls clattering to the floor, cupboard doors swinging open and a red bucket sliding across the room, appearing to be heading straight for her.  'We have a guest in our home,' Ashy Murphy said after she shared the disturbing footage on Tuesday.

Erin Justice (left and inset) pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the slaying of 27-year-old Alicia Fox (top right). He was given an additional two years for using a firearm during a felony. Justice's six-year-old stepdaughter, Kaylah Hunter (bottom center), and the couple's 8-month-old son, Kristian Justice (bottom right), remain missing. Justice hasn't been charged in connection with the missing children. The investigation into their disappearance is ongoing and Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Trisha Gerard vowed to 'continue to seek justice' for the Fox family.

Former Housewife Dina Manzo, 43, has a new love, 35-year-old Dave Cantin and he's moved her to Beverly Hils. She is still not divorced from her husband Tommy, who tells Daily Mail Online the couple have been separated for two years. Cantin is also married, but insists Dina was not the cause of his split from his wife. Diagnosed with leukemia four years ago he acknowledges, 'Dina was there for me through some difficult times and she helped me through them.' Dina has moved to a swanky Californian rental tweeting 'Never thought my zip code would be #90210.'

The intruder (main) - who was wearing plastic gloves and also armed with pepper spray - broke into the house in North Hills, California, around 2.20 a.m. Tuesday morning. After viciously attacking a man (top right) and a woman in the home, the family were able to band together to overpower the intruder, who they described as being in a 'violent rage' and rambling incoherently. After getting him to the ground, the family bound the hands of the man using a stereo cord and called police. 'They didn't go overboard with him. They just tied him up and held him. They did an excellent job. He picked the wrong house,' LAPD officer William Brownwell told Fox.

The tiny Chihuahua from Weldon, California - east of Bakersfield - decided to climb a a 75-foot Italian cypress tree and inevitably became stuck last Wednesday, needing help from the local fire department. 'It is quite unusual for our department to respond to a call for a dog in a tree,' Kern County Animal Services spokeswoman Maggie Kalar told Bakersfield Now. 'These types of calls usually involve a cat stuck up in a tree.' It's believed Petra chased an animal, perhaps a squirrel, up the tree.

Video taken by a member of the crowd shows Susana Spencer, 21, standing on the beam suspended high above the stadium at Sports Authority Field in Denver, flailing her arms about and dancing. The incident occurred during Saturday's game between University of Colorado-Boulder and Colorado State University. The footage shows Spencer dancing for about a minute before walking back over a narrow beam to a landing, where a police officer and security were waiting for her. She was was arrested and cited for trespassing, failure to obey a lawful order and disturbing the peace.

A photo featuring Ingrid Wood and Ross Uebergang on their wedding day in Blackall in western Queensland has raised more than $11,000 (16,000 Australian dollars) for a rural charity after a social media campaign. In the week before their wedding, Ms Wood's family was forced to remove all of their stock from their 16,000 hectare property due to the financial strain brought on by the drought. Her family's plight and witnessing the severe effects the drought has had on the Blackall community inspired wedding photographer, Edwina Robertson, to raise money. She pledged to donate $2 (3 Australian dollars) for every share the photo of the newlyweds received during a 24 hour period .
