Andy Samberg's monster Emmy's roast: Host takes no prisoners as he goes all guns blazing for Trump, Cosby, Jared Fogle and more in rip-roaring show opener

  • As host of the 67th annual Emmy Awards, Andy Samberg started the show with a funny monologue and skit
  • Samberg took shots at a number of celebrities during the monologue and no one was off limits
  • He launched a number of jokes about Trump, Bernie Sanders, Paula Dean, Robert Durst, Arnold Schwarzenegger and more

Comedian Andy Samberg opened the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday with a funny monologue and jokes about celebrities from Bill Cosby to Paula Dean.

The beginning of Samberg's monologue was a pre-taped skit about television and the state of the entertainment industry.

It included cameos from Jon Hamm, Nathan Fillion, Will Forte and Kerry Washington, in addition to Samberg singing a musical number about watching every single TV show.

Once the 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' actor hit the futuristic looking set at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, he kicked off the event with a somewhat traditional introduction of himself before noting that 'Justin Timberlake is not coming.'

Lovers of hoagies: Samberg joked that 'between Bill Cosby (left), Jared Fogle (center) and Robert Durst (right) not a good year for dudes who love hoagies

He said that he was honored to follow in the footsteps of other celebrities who previously hosted the highly anticipated annual ceremony.

'I have to say I'm so proud to join the ranks of past Emmy hosts like Robert Blake and Bill Cosby,' Samberg stated.

'Oh, no! I have to get out of here. Between Bill Cosby, Jared Fogle and Robert Durst not a good year for dudes who love hoagies.'

Cosby, who reportedly once loved to eat hoagies, hosted the ceremony in 1966, 1968 and 1970.

Short speeches only: Samberg was joined on stage by Jane Lynch, who was dressed as the mean nun from 'Game of Thrones.' He joked that if a celeb gave a long speech, they would have to deal with the Lynch

With most award shows, there's always a celebrity who delivers a long acceptance speech.

'If your speech goes too long, instead of being played off by the orchestra you're going to have to deal with the mean nun from 'Game of Thrones,'' Samburg said as he was joined by actress Jane Lynch dressed as the character from the HBO series on stage.

The 'Saturday Night Live' veteran also received some applause from the audience after noting the subtle improvements in diversity in the industry.

He quickly got some laughs when he added that 'Racism is over. Don't fact-check that!'

Politicians: Samberg hit out against The Donald saying 'Sure, Donald Trump seems racist. What else?' He also joked that Bernie Sanders appears to look like 'his flight is always delayed'

Samberg, who has scored six Emmy nominations for his SNL work, then hit out against The Donald, saying 'Sure, Donald Trump seems racist. What else?'

The funny man then quipped 'Sidenote: Is it just met, or does Bernie Sanders look like his flight is always delayed?'

He continued his monologue with a joke about actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is taking over as host of 'Celebrity Apprentice' from Trump.

'I don't know why he's not hosting 'To Catch a Predator,' since he has experience killing all those Predators,' Samberg said alluding to Schwarzenegger's famous sci-fi flick.

Samberg's likely biggest criticism during his monologue was for Paula Deen and Kim Davis, the Kentucky marriage clerk who defied a federal court by refusing to grant same sex couples marriage licenses over her religious beliefs.

'Paula Deen is on 'Dancing With the Stars.' If I wanted to see an intolerant lady dance I would have gone to one of Kim Davis' four weddings,' he stated.

'It's ironic she came out of jail to 'Eye of the Tiger' when you consider how many dudes have boned each other to that song.'

Samberg also saluted the shows that are going off air while taking a jab at another.

'Intolerant': Samberg

'Intolerant': 'Paula Deen is on 'Dancing With the Stars.' If I wanted to see an intolerant lady dance I would have gone to one of Kim Davis' four weddings,' Samberg said of the two women

'Goodbye to 'Mad Men' and 'Parks and Recreation' and we also said goodbye to 'True Detective' even though it's still on the air,' Samberg joked.

In closing out his monologue, he declared, 'Alright, let's give away some mother-humpin' Emmys!'
