'I have a voice to say it’s not cool!' Zendaya weighs in on THOSE comments by Giuliana Rancic as it is revealed her criticised look will be immortalised in Barbie form

She may have been a baby through the decade but this teen certainly knows how to rock the Nineties style.

Zendaya has been transported back to the decade of her birth for a photo shoot and new interview with Galore Magazine.

But, of course, as is everything with the 19-year-old star, with her beauty comes something a little more substantial.

The then Fashion Police said the actress probably 'smells like patchouli oil ... or weed' while criticizing her red carpet look.

Taking the high road, but not backing down, Zendaya said at the time that there is 'a fine line between what is funny and what is disrespectful' and branded the comments 'outrageously offensive'.

'My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of colour that our hair is good enough.'

The star told Galore that her parents, Claire Stoermer and Kazembe Ajamu, had always taught her that her voice mattered.

On being opinionated, she said: 'I think it’s all just how I was raised. My parents are both educators and the way they raised me was to always be aware of what’s going on in my business as well as in my personal life.

'My parents never really sheltered me from anything. They were always very open with me, which is probably why I’m able to be real.'

And so when, Giuliana made those now infamous comments, the star said she first processed her feelings then used her voice to speak both for herself and others.

'I could have clapped back and gone off. Of course I wanted to, everyone wants to do that. I just kept thinking there were other young people dealing with the same kind of issue who were watching me to see how I would respond.

The talented teen elongated her already lengthy legs in a pair of platform heels and finished off her look with a furry coat by Tart and a Chanel necklace.

The best part about Zendaya's top is that it's only $15 and it's available with a click to the right. Wear it under a lacy sheer top with a pair of stovepipe jeans on your next evening out.

'I think the way we react to things is a big indicator of our character and what type of person we are. I just had too much respect for myself and didn’t want to prove everybody right that’s waiting for me to be ignorant and do something dumb, so I took my time until I thought of the best way I could address the comments.'

'I realized that if I don’t like something, I can change it. If I don’t feel comfortable with something, then I have a voice to say it’s not cool.'

It can come as little wonder then that Martel has just announced that they will be creating a one-off Barbie based in the Shake It Up star and role model.

On Monday, the company revealed the Barbie would look just like the star did at the Oscars - dreads and all.

While still just a teenager, the Oakland-born actress exudes star power, which is evident not just in the new Barbie, but also through the Galore shoot.

The photo spread took inspiration from the famous 1991 Vogue magazine shoot entitled Wild At Heart featuring supermodels Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell and Stephanie Seymour.

And while the iconic biker babe issue was done five years before Zendaya was even born, dripping in vintage designer accessories with big bouffant hair, the actress was every inch a Nineties supermodel.

Explaining why they chose to profile the star, Galore’s Creative Directors Prince Chenoa and Jacob Dekat said in a joint statement: 'At 19, Zendaya, has established herself as a (very stylish) young entrepreneur, and as a stunning young woman invested not only in standing up for herself, but in proving herself to be extremely successful in TV, Music, and fashion.'

Raised her well: The actress said her parents Claire Stoermer and Kazembe Ajamu (pictured 2013) taught her to stand up for herself and try to make a change by doing so
