Phillip Phillips' new managers sued by American Idol producers who want $4million for 'poaching' singer

Phillip Phillips' new manager is being sued for $4 million by his old American Idol managers.

Legal documents claim the singer was poached from Idol's management company 19 Entertainment, and they want $4 million in compensation, TMZ reports.

In January, the singer, 25, filed paperwork to void the contract he signed as an aspiring contestant on the reality show, calling the agreement one-sided and unfair.

He claims the 'oppressive' contract forced him to play concerts for free, and that he wasn't even told the name of his album until he heard it through the media, The Hollywood Reporter reported at the time.

However, 19 Entertainment hit back saying he pocketed $5 million in 2013 and more than that in $2014, and they want millions in compensation, reports TMZ.

Phillips signed to new manager Michael McDonald's Mick Entertainment, after meeting him while on tour with John Mayer, who was McDonald's client.

Phillips won the eleventh season of American Idol in 2012, and released winner's single 'Home', which hit Number 6 on the Billboard charts.

He has since released two albums. His 2012 debut, The Word From The Side Of The Moon, went platinum. His follow-up, Behind the Light, was released in 2014.

Phillips has also been criticized after he failed to bail his parents out after they filed for bankruptcy and were forced to sell the family's pawn shop.

The singer is said to have a net worth of $3.5 million.

However his parents previously told the Daily Mail there was no family rift, and that they didn't expect their son to step in.
