A hilarious how-to video showing instructional modelling clips from the not-so-fashionable decade shows why models looked so ridiculous in photos and commercial advertisements.

The YouTube account Found Footage Fest scoured the Internet for the most cringe-worthy clips and created a montage, which features cameos from Denise Richards, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen and a headshot of the late Tom Bosley.

Titled 'Modeling: What it Takes,' the video offers tips for people who want to become models, using live demonstrations and advice from modelling coaches.

Denise Richards, 44, appears as a teenager in the footage, sharing: 'Hi, I'm Denise Richards. It wasn't that long ago that I wondered if I could model or find work on television.

'Well, here I am,' says the Wild Things actress, who speaks to the camera in an exaggerated register.

She says: 'I got started in modelling [because] my uncle was a photographer. It's been great!'

'Everything's going alright!' chimes in Mario, who is now 41 as well.

The montage also includes amusing instructional tidbits from professionals.

As a woman holds up a perfume bottle, a voiceover states: 'The manner in which you hold the bottle can portray the perfume as glamorous - or fun!'

In another clip, a model is seen experimenting with different smiles as a voiceover advises:  'If you accentuate the vowel A, you're guaranteed a nice, natural smile. It's the same with E, I, or you could try O.'

The modelling coach then has the her demonstrate how one can accentuate the vowel U 'for a more sensual look' as the model makes a seductive face.

A subsequent clip shows a model making different facial expressions as a voiceover instructs: 'To express with the mouth, you can use four sounds: ooh, ah, wow, and gee.'

One hilarious scene shows a woman talking about a poultry ad that called for a model or actor who 'resembled an actual chicken.' 

The video concludes with Denise saying: 'While we have shared so much information with you in this video, you'll probably watch it several times over before you understand it all completely.'

A casting agent then holds up a headshot of Happy Days star Tom Bosley, who passed away in 2010, advising aspiring models to send him their photos 'like this one!'
