'I get called ma'am all the time': Male singer wins over The Voice judges during blind audition... then shocks them as they thought he was a WOMAN

The Voice features a blind audition round for a reason.

And a Kentucky singer managed to blow away the coaches on the season premiere of The Voice when everyone on the panel thought he was a woman due to his high-pitched rendition of Sia's hit Chandelier.

When they spun around their chairs Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams were amazed they they had been listening to a male vocalist, wearing a cardigan and glasses.

Adam, displaying a rare talent for hyperbole, went as far as to call Jordan Smith 'the most important person that's ever been on this show.'

'That was the most trippiest, turn-around, blind audition freakiest thing I have experienced in my life,' Gwen told him after running stage to hug him. 'Oh my God, you shocked me. You are amazing. You do not look like your voice just FYI.'

'I get that a lot,' Jordan told her.

Pharrell told him that was 'the super coolest part about it' and praised his 'individuality.'

'With every person that turned around you got better and that tells me how ready you are for this,' said Adam. 'Seeing these people smiling and clapping and seeing these guys and their reaction to you was such a beautiful experience.'

Jordan told them he was from the small town of Harlan, Kentucky, and that it had taken him a while to accept that is was okay to be different, joking 'I have not always been the coolest person.'

He added: 'Obviously my voice is different. I get called ma'am on the phone all the time, I get called ma'am at every drive through and through that I had to learn that being different is what makes me special.

Pharrell told him he could identify about being different and would be proud to work with him.

Jordan wrestled with his choice before finally deciding to go with Adam Levine.

Jordan was in tears as he left the stage to be met by his cheering family.

'This is such an unbelievable opportunity and it is just because I have taken a chance.'

Adam then told the coaches he could not belief he landed Jordan.

'It has been so long since I got one of those, that dude is just crazy,' said Adam.

'You have got one, I'm telling you,' said an impressed Pharrell.

The show kicked off with judges Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams performing a medley where they covered each others hits.

Gwen sang Blake's 'Neon Lights' and Blake sang 'Don't Speak' by Gwen's band 'No Doubt.'

It was Pharrell who won season eight with Sawyer Fredericks and the coaches insisted they are each ready to win this year, before they gave Gwen welcome back gifts.

First up was Mark Hood, 24, from Chicago, who sang 'Use Me' by Bill Withers.

Mark said he grew up singing in church and that his mother did not appreciate it when she found him singing Usher at the age of 11.

Mark said his dream would be to work with Blake Shelton as no-one would expect them to combine.

Pharrell hit his button first, followed by Adam, Gwen and Blake, with Mark thrilled to get all four chairs turned.

Blake said he loved Mark's energy and crazy dancing and even put on a Pharrell cap to try and influence him.

But despite the country star's efforts, not to mention his earlier proclamations, Mark chose to work with Pharrell instead.

Gwen told him that she is also Irish and both she and Adam joke about how they know Bono from U2.

'I ca't wait for you to meet Bono, lets make that happen' said Adam as Gwen told Keith she toured with U2 and stayed at Bono's house.

The petite performer showed she has a husky voice that does not to seem to fit her and she wowed the judges who all hit their buttons and turn their chairs except Adam.

'The first moment I heard your voice I thought that's my girl,' Gwen told her.

When Siahna called Pharrell Mister Skateboard P the other judges moaned and he left his chair and walked onto the stage to give her a hug.

'There is no doubt you are talented, no doubt we all want you on our teams and no doubt you are special,' said Pharrell.

Adam said he did not feel the necessary self-confidence and Gwen thought he was over-singing, while Pharrell urged him to perform in front of tough crowds so the songs become second nature.
