A slice of white bread, one plastic container and a blast in the microwave: Video reveals simple trick to soften rock-hard brown sugar in just 30 seconds
- Method demonstrated by DIY expert Jill Urban
- Place one slice of white bread in with sugar and microwave for 15 seconds
- The bread absorbs moisture, swiftly softening the hard brown sugar
Brown sugar can often turn rock-hard when it hasn't been used for some time.
But just because your sugar is clumpy doesn't mean you have to throw it away.
In fact, according to this Rumble video, all you need to revive hardened sugar is a single slice of white bread which is placed in a microwavable container and blasted for 15 seconds.
The short film, presented by DIY expert Jill Urban, shows viewers how to de-clump brown sugar by microwaving it with a slice of white bread.
According to Ms Urban that's all you need to return hardened brown sugar to its soft form.
Narrating the step-by step process, she says: 'Just take your brown sugar and put it into your container.

'And then take a piece of white bread and just simply place it in the container as well,' she continues.
She then places a lid on the microwaveable container, saying: 'You're now going to stick it in the microwave for 15 seconds.'
After 15 seconds, she opens the container to reveal that the previously rock-hard brown sugar has indeed softened considerably.
Place the container in a microwave and zap for 15 seconds (left). The bread absorbs the moisture from the sugar (right)
Much softer: The previously rock-hard brown sugar can now be easily forked through
In the video she says: 'As you can see, it's much softer. And although some of it is still all in one piece, you can just take a fork and easily break it apart. It is not a rock like it was before.'
The method works because the slice of bread absorbs the moisture in the sugar, which is what caused the sugar to become rock-hard.
But if you want to prevent brown sugar from hardening in the first place, Shep Allister from Lifehacker.com' has the perfect tip.
He said to FEMAIL: 'Help brown sugar stay soft and scoopable by tossing an orange peel or a slice of apple along with the sugar into an airtight container.'
