Dramatic moment an Israeli soldier takes aim at a veiled teenage Palestinian student... who was shot dead moments later for attempting to stab a West Bank checkpoint guard

Israeli soldier aims at Hadeel al-Hashlamon who was then shot dead in Hebron

The unnamed solider can be seen in a tense stand-off with the veiled young woman, thought to be Hadeel al-Hashlamon, an 18-year-old Palestinian student. The confrontation, which involved at least one other soldier (top right), came in Hebron on the West Bank Tuesday after, where tensions have been at fever-point for days as major religious festivals in both the Jewish and Muslim calendars approach. Moments after the image was photographed, al-Hashlamon was shot. Family members were later pictured (bottom right) grieving over her dead body, which was rolled through the streets as her relatives mourned. The killing came after Israeli authorities banned young Muslim men from the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam's third-holiest site, and implemented a travel ban over the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

Does Prime Minister David Cameron believe in anything? LORD ASHCROFT writes

What was the point of David Cameron? That was the question many were asking a year into the life of the Coalition , write MICHAEL ASHCROFT and ISABEL OAKSHOTT. For all the talk of tackling the deficit and creating a 'Big Society', voters remained confused about his purpose. Such was the uncertainty that Andrew Cooper, Cameron's pollster, carried out a survey on what people thought 'the ideal Government' would aim to do. 'People think we just don't get it,' he warned. 'The public mood is turning against us.' The old mantra - 'we're all in it together' - a soundbite that used to poll positively, was becoming a source of scorn. EU refugee deal forces Eastern European countries to take their share

Eastern European countries have been told they will have to welcome thousands of refugees to relocate 160,000 people from Greece and Italy after they were out-voted at a Brussels summit. Diplomats warned the decision to over-rule the autonomy of countries on such a sensitive issue was a 'big moment' in the history of the union and could lead to 'blood on the walls'. The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary tried to block the plan but their vehement opposition was over-ridden after it was decided to use a majority vote at the meeting of interior ministers rather than consensus. The best thing on TV! 60 years after adverts first hit our screens, a gloriously nostalgic look back at some that were unforgettable

As ITV celebrates its 60th birthday, a look back at the best adverts of all time

ITV was born in London on September 22, 1955, as a rival to the po-faced BBC. The first advert, as we soon learned to call them, aired that evening at precisely 8.12pm, during a variety show. Down the years, not even the great British sitcom has yielded more cultural references than the commercial break. Those of us of a certain age all remember that Trebor Mints are 'a minty bit stronger', and that Martini is for drinking 'any time, any place, anywhere'. And when actress Lynda Bellingham died last October, a nation mourned 'the Oxo mum'. Take a walk down memory lane and see if you can remember some of the most famous adverts ever to grace our screens.
