Helen Mirren, 70, defies her years in colourful printed frock as she attends Metropolitan Opera's season opener

On Saturday night she and her husband joined guests at an exclusive screening of Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards's bio-documentary at New York's Museum of Modern Art in New York.

And on Monday Helen Mirren and Taylor Hackford went for a very different type of musical experience at the Metropolitan Opera's season opening night of Verdi's Otello at the city's Lincoln Center.

The 70-year-old, looking much younger than her age as always, slipped into a colourful ankle-length frock decorated with a print of children's drawings of red flowers, white houses, rainbows and blue skies.

The Dolce And Gabbana dress featured a round neck, long sleeves and a fitted bodice with a full skirt that billowed out beautifully.

The Brit, whose platinum blonde hair was cut into a short bob, teamed her frock with white high-heeled pumps and a black handbag.

The Queen actress smiled as she cuddled up to her husband of nearly 20 years, Officer And A Gentleman director Taylor.

Bring out your inner child in Helen's Dolce & Gabbana dress

We all know that Helen Mirren is young at heart.

But just in case we needed proof of her playful spirit, the Hollywood actress offered us plenty by wearing this dress adorned with children's scribbles. Very Angelina Jolie wedding dress-esque.

The three quarter sleeve satin midi is from Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2015 collection and features what looks like real life drawings of houses, rainbows and gardens. It's one very happy frock.

Helen is an avid fan of Dolce & Gabbana's designs and often wears the Italian brand at high profile events - but this is her most daring look to date. She pulled it off in one!

This exact dress isn't available online but a super similar version is up for grabs on the Neiman Marcus website - just click right to make it yours now.

We'll be styling ours with cream strappy sandals and minimal jewelry to avoid detracting from the innovative design.

Inspired by Shakespeare’s Othello and directed by Bartlett Sher, the opera follows the Moor’s dramatic downfall with tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko as the doomed Otello.

It's the first time since the opera was first staged at the Met in 1891 that a white singer performing the title role was not wearing makeup to darken his complexion to play the Moor, according to NPR.

On Saturday evening, the couple were far more casually dressed for the invitation-only screening of Keith's Under The Influence.

Helen paired a striking pair of hot pink trousers with a blue cardigan and spiced up the look with leopard print heels and a matching handbag. Her beau chose a plum T-shirt under a smart black jacket and brown corduroy trousers
