Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne has won the coveted FIFA 16 Celebrity Cup after defeating Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon 2-0 in the final.

The 24-year-old England international, playing as Chelsea, scored a penalty with Eden Hazard and a header with John Terry, before guessing the right way to deny Puncheon's own spot-kick with Manchester City's Sergio Aguero.

The pair were competing at a special event at the Gfinity Arena in London on the eve of the launch of EA Sports' latest video game installment.

Clyne and Puncheon were joined at the event by Swansea City's Ashley Williams, Tottenham's Kyle Walker, former Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand, Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy, Wimbledon striker Adebayo Akinfenwa as well as boxer Anthony Joshua and McFly and Busted singer Danny Jones.

Martin Tyler and Alan Smith provided authentic and enthusiastic guest commentary on an fun-filled night in the nation's capital.

While Akinfenwa will have been disappointed to have bowed out in the semi-finals to Puncheon, the heavyweight forward nicknamed 'The Beast' can take some solace in being awarded a prize for his status as the strongest player to be featured in the game.

After lifting the Celebrity Cup, Clyne said: 'I'm delighted. From the start, I've shown everyone what I can do.'

Asked if he wanted to test himself against his team-mates at Liverpool, he responded with a cavalier disregard for any humility: 'I'm going to retire as the champion. I don't think three's anyone good enough to play against me.'

FIFA 16 is available from Tuesday at an RRP of £39.99-£49.99 at most high-street retailers.
