Pamela Anderson, 48, takes the plunge in silver dress on Today as she jokes how her sons Brandon and Dylan are 'perfect gentlemen considering the gene pool' 

She and partner Tommy Lee have strived to keep their sons out of the spotlight as they have grown up.

And Pamela Anderson has revealed that she thinks her efforts may have worked, as she says both her boys, Brandon, 19, and Dylan, 17, are perfect gentlemen.

The 48-year-old actress spoke out while promoting her new book on Monday on The Today show.

Wearing a stunning plunging silver frock, she looked glamorous and much younger than her years.

She told presenter Willie Geist: 'Tommy Lee and I have raised very grounded and interesting sons out of the spotlight, shielding them from the craziness of Hollywood, fiercely protecting their childhood.

'I think it is very important. They are going to make their own choices in the rest of their life - and it wouldn't be their choice if we were dragging them down red carpets.'

She joked she is 'always in tears' thanks to having two sons to care for, but is clearly very proud of her boys.

The actress, who was on the show promoting her book Raw added that she knew she had made the right decision when she recently took Brandon to a friend's premiere: 'As soon as I did - I went to a friends premiere when Brandon was 18 just turning 19, and he got so much attention. 

'Of course now he wants to be an actor.' 

Interviewer Willie responded: 'They are good looking boys - lets put it out there.'

Pamela said she told her son: 'I said, "you are gorgeous, you're talented. Lets work on humbleness, lets work on education right now."'

'They are kids I want them have a childhood. We share our homes on Vancouver Island and in LA, and that has kept them really grounded I hope.

Pamela, who was married to Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee for three years added: 'But they are genetically loaded so...They are perfect gentlemen considering the gene pool.'

Pamela also talked about plans to make a Baywatch movie and said: 'I will believe it when I see it. 

Revealing she would rather it wasn't made she said: It was the times of television it was 35mm (referring to the way it was shot) everyone looked good. I don't know if I want to...I don't know.'  

To which Willie replied:'I'm going to give you a lot more credit than that'

Willie then put up a photo of fellow host Matt Lauer who dressed up in a Baywatch style costume for the Today show next to a shot of Pamela from the iconic 90's program.

The blonde said: 'I would rather people think of me that way than any other way,'

She then joked of the photo comparison: 'Close - it kind of looks like me now.'

To which Willie replied:'I'm going to give you a lot more credit than that.'

She then added, smiling:  'You know you have made it when you are a Halloween costume.'

Pamela's new book is a features more than just a few nude photographs of Anderson taken by her friend and collaborator, British photographer Emma Dunlavey, and a selection of prose handwritten by the star herself.

Fifty cents per book goes to her charitable foundation 

She said: 'Some of the writing I think,it kind of shows the maniac going on inside my head.

'Like everybody else that is going through relationships and is raising children.

'I write every single day so we put a lot of my journal entries in there and some of my poetry.'
