From Spain with love! Penelope Cruz and husband Javier Bardem land in New York City side by side as they prep for Escobar film 

Penelope Cruz and husband Javier Bardem looked their most casual yet when the landed at JFK airport on Monday.

The Spanish actors had on T-shirts and jeans as they made their way through the New York terminal.

Also with them were their two children Luna, aged two, and Leo, aged four, but they were not pictured.

The Nine actress wore her highlighted locks down and with some bangs. The ex-girlfriend of Tom Cruise had on no makeup and covered her eyes with round sunglasses that looked like something from the 1960s hippie era.

Javier was even more casual in a baseball cap, salt-and-pepper beard and blue T-shirt with worn-in jeans.

Neither seemed to be in good spirits as they pulled their rolly suitcases through the airport.

The two will be working together soon.

In May Variety reported the two would be co-starring in Escobar and filming would take place later this year.

Virginia Vallejo’s 2008 bestselling Spanish-language memoir Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar will be the inspiration for the movie.

Spanish director Fernando León de Aranoa will direct from his own script.

Escobar will follows the rise of Pablo Escobar, the ruthless Colombian drug king who died in a shootout in 1993 after his reign had helped plunged his country into chaos.

Vallejo describes her romantic relationship with Escobar.

Penelope and Javier first worked together on the 1992 film Jamon, Jamon.

In 2008 the reconnected on Woody Allen's 2008 drama Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Penelope recently talked to The Guardian about her children.

'The biggest feelings I have ever experienced come from the way my children look at me,' she said.

'Being a mother is seeing life from a different point of view, as if you were a child again.

'Even your relationship with nature changes; it’s like you can see a tree through new eyes.'
