'Someone did find me attractive and she put a ring on it': Benedict Cumberbatch nails response to Twitter troll live on Jimmy Kimmel

He's hailed a national treasure but it seems not everyone shares the popular opinion of Benedict Cumberbatch as the talented actor learned the hard way on Monday evening.

Benedict, 39, was invited onto Jimmy Kimmel's chat show - Jimmy Kimmel Live! - for a segment which sees A-listers read out mean tweets about themselves.

The Hamlet star joined Kristen Bell and Jeff Bridges in reciting the catty insults on Monday night's episode but in true Benedict-style, he outshone his fellow celebs, nailing his response.

'If you find Benedict Cumberbatch attractive, I'm guessing you'd also quite enjoy staring directly at a cat's anus,' he said.

The father-of-one chuckled to himself before taking a moment to perfect his response.

Shutting down the Twitter troll, he said defiantly: 'Yeah, well someone did, and she put a ring on it,' as he held up his band-clad wedding-ring finger.

'Someone did find me attractive and she put a ring on it': Benedict, 39, successfully shot down the mean tweet by reminding the troll he is a married man. Here he is pictured with wife Sophie Hunter at the Burberry Prorsum at London Fashion Week on September 21

Keep it chic in Sophie's Burberry brogues

With stars out in force at the Burberry Spring Summer 2016 show, we've been style spotting all over. Our latest crush is Mrs. Benedict Cumberbatch, Sophie Hunter, who turned up to the show in a very chic ensemble of black trousers, pristine white coat and stylish buckle brogues.

While the Burberry coat isn't yet available to buy, you can get your hands on those double buckle flat shoes from the brand by clicking the link to the right and shopping on their website. The leather and calfskin shoes are part brogue, part platform creeper, and wholly stylish. We reckon their pretty comfy too! This style is the perfect shoe to take you into the new season, easily being teamed with jeans or smart trousers as Sophie shoes, or with cute dresses in an Alexa Chung fashion.

If the Burberry pair are a little out of budget, try one of the more affordable styles in our edit below. Swear has a great look-a-like version, while the bargain buy goes to Missguided with a style for only $40!

The Sherlock star was of course referring to his wife Sophie Hunter whom he married in February this year after a 17-year friendship.

The couple welcomed their first child together - son Christopher - in June.

Benedict recently insisted his sex symbol status is a 'reflection and appreciation' of his work, adding that no one ever found him attractive until he starred as the titular detective in Sherlock.

He said: 'I was never seen as sexy by anyone until Sherlock came along and so I understand [being seen as a sex symbol] more as a reflection and appreciation of the work, rather than my own natural magnetism.

'I certainly remember when I was an adolescent and despairing why girls weren't interested in me.

'I've always maintained that Sherlock is sexy and people are merely projecting his cold, brilliant, charming, flawed self onto me.'
