Egads! Hidden in George MacDonald Fraser's safe was the long-lost manuscript that gave birth to the wicked bounder of the Flashman novels. Captain In Calico was the story of the notorious 18th century pirates (and lovers), 'Calico' Jack Rackham and Anne Bonney, and, like the Flashman novels, interweaves fiction with real historical events to create a semi-fictional narrative. Here, the author's daughter reveals her amazing discovery. ...read

TOM PARKER BOWLES: Off to a flying start: The Wright Brothers' secret? Quality seafood... and no messing about
For Wright Brothers are not just one of the big players in the wholesale oyster market, they're also restaurateurs of rare understatement, who concentrate on getting the best seafood, and doing very little to it. No million-pound refurbs, brass walls, 'concepts' or interactive technology, just a place to go guzzle beasts from the sea.

Off to a flying start: The Wright Brothers' secret? Quality seafood... and no messing about
For Wright Brothers are not just one of the big players in the wholesale oyster market, they're also restaurateurs of rare understatement, who concentrate on getting the best seafood, and doing very little to it. No million-pound refurbs, brass walls, 'concepts' or interactive technology, just a place to go guzzle beasts from the sea. OLLY SMITH ON WINE
Which bottles from the Cape's new frontier of fine wine should you be buying here?
Wine has been made in this corner of Africa since 1659 which today exports some 450 million litres of wine from its 100,000 hectares of vineyards. I'm excited by the potential of red grapes such as Cabernet Franc, Cinsault, Syrah, Malbec and more adventurous plantings such as Tinta Barocca. The possibilities for whites encompassing Rhône varieties are brilliant along with decent examples of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay, even Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Verdelho, Gewürztraminer and Riesling which all reflect South Africa's extraordinary patchwork of soils and meso-climates. ...read

Apple's menu for 6S: The new iPhone is all about its super-sensitive 3D Touch screen. Geeks will love it, but is it worth your money?
The iPhone's new '3D Touch' screen is certainly nifty, allowing users three different levels of screen press, to bring up menu options, and (for instance) to dive straight into navigation from a map screen. You can also 'peek' at websites by prodding at the link, without actually going there. If 3D Touch really is going to be a revolution, it will be a slow one. ...read
CHRIS EVANS ON CARS
The Jag that thinks it's a German: Yes, the new XE saloon is terrific fun to drive. But there's nothing to make this cat leap out from the BMW and Audi crowd
OK, so much has been borrowed from Range Rover, like the signature circular gear selector, info graphics and control switches, but as a combination it all felt very sporty, clean and efficient. The driving position was also excellent. All the above stellar work however is academic in my opinion. There are myriad similar cars already out there for a similar price. ...read
PIERS MORGAN: MY LIFE AND OTHER CELEBRITIES
'Where was my invite to your birthday party?' bellowed George Osborne. 'Sorry mate,' I replied. 'The budget was tight'
The A-list crowd can all get wrecked, behave very badly and abuse each other in speeches at the GQ Men Of The Year awards. Host for the night was Samuel L Jackson, who played a video about the testicular cancer charity he supports, One For The Boys, then launched into a hilarious introduction. ...read
