Anne Hathaway turns on the charm to promote The Intern in New York after co-star Robert De Niro's clash with journalist

Robert De Niro recently made waves as he tried walking out of an interview.

And Anne Hathaway seemingly made sure to learn from her co-star's mistakes while promoting upcoming film The Intern.

The 32-year-old actress seemed to turn up the charm at the AOL Build Presents The Intern at AOL Studios in New York sit-down on Tuesday.

She was all smiles while talking about the comedy alongside director and writer of the flick Nancy Meyers as they chatted with presenter Ricky Camilleri.

Anne looked chic as always as she sported a white blazer over a black polka dot top, skinny black trousers and matching suede heels.

Her medium-length brunette tresses were worn down into waves ending just above her shoulders as she sported natural make-up complete with a swipe of shiny nude lip.

The 65-year-old Oscar-nominated screenwriter wore a very similar outfit which included a blue suit, striped white and navy top and black leather loafers.

Anne made sure to make her mark on the venue as she signed the wall with a big smile on her face as many celebrity visitors do at the Big Apple AOL studios.

It seemed to be a stark difference than her co-star De Niro's highly-publicised encounter with a journalist on Monday.

The 72-year-old legendary actor was accused of being 'condescending' by Radio Times writer Emma Brockes after he took offence at her questions and became embroiled in a heated exchange.

He then walked out after telling her 'I'm not doing this, darling.'

The Oscar-winning actor did not like it when Brockes asked him how he resisted the temptation to go into 'autopilot' on set, and was seemingly irked again when she suggested the Tribeca district of New York, where De Niro co-founded a film festival, had been taken over by bankers.

Brockes wrote in the Radio Times magazine that after the actor asked her to pause her recorder 'he then pops out of his chair, starts pacing madly and says he's cutting short the interview because of the "negative inference" of what I just said.'

During the AOL event on Tuesday, Anne gushed about De Niro when asked if she was either comfortable or scared to work with such an icon in film.

She said: 'No I was so scared, it's Bob De Niro, I mean he's a legend. If anything (I was) lucky to have done The Devil Wears Prada with Meryl Streep because anyways in many ways I missed that experience because I never got over the "God you're Meryl Streep-ness."'

After Emma Brockes asked Robert De Niro how he resisted the temptation to go into 'autopilot' on set, and later suggested the Tribeca district of New York, where he co-founded a film festival, had been taken over by bankers, the Oscar-winning actor said he was cutting short the interview. Citing her 'negative inference' as his justification, the exchange then went as follows...

Brockes: 'What, about the bankers?'

De Niro: 'All the way through. All the way through. Negative inference.'

Brockes: 'Er, like where else?'

De Niro: 'The whole way through and I'm not doing it. I'm not doing it, darling.'

De Niro: 'You're probably not even aware that you're doing it. The negative inference.'

Brockes: 'That's quite a presumption.'

De Niro: 'I'm a very good reader of character.'

Brockes: 'So am I.'

Brockes: 'Hang on. So where else am I being negative?'

De Niro: 'The question about being on autopilot - negative inference.'

Brockes: 'Wait but I asked that question to establish how it is you manage not to be on autopilot.'

De Niro: 'There's a negative inference.'

Brockes: 'I have to say, now that you're going on about it, it makes me think you were on autopilot and you're super-sensitive about it.'

De Niro: 'I'm not doing this, darling.'

Brockes: 'I think you're very condescending.'

De Niro: Oh, you think "darling" is condescending?'

Anne continued: 'In this case, I didn't want to do that. It's been ten years and I wanted to say "Okay I'm completely awed by this human being but I want to get to know him, I don't want to make him uncomfortable with my inner freak outs."'

The Oscar-winner said that she would deal with the excitement at home and made sure not to be conscious of how quiet the actor is on set before they got comfortable with one another.

The flick also stars Rene Russo, Andrew Rannells,  Anders Holm, Adam DeVine, JoJo Kushner and Christina Scherer. The Intern is set for release on Friday in the US followed by one in the UK on October 2.
