Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt and Steve Carrell all portray major players in the creation of the credit default swap market. which was used to their financial advantage while the rest of the country suffered.

The short clip begins with 41-year-old actor Bale's character, Michael Burry, on the phone in 2005 with a business partner as he says: 'I found something really interesting. The whole housing market is propped up on these bad loans, they will fail. It's a time bomb.'

No doubt his character is an eccentric individual as he is shown walking around barefoot in his office while bouncing a tennis ball and also air drumming with wooden drumsticks whole listening to headphones at his desk.

'It's a time bomb': The 41-year-old Bale opens the short clip as Michael Burry, who believes he has found something when he's delved deeper into researching bad housing loans

'So Mike Burry who gets his haircut at Supercuts and doesn't wear shoes knows more than Alan Greenspan?,' to which Bale's character replies: 'Doctor Mike Burry and yes he does.'

Carrell, 53, is then shown as Steve Eisman as he says: 'You know what I'm pissed off. American people are getting screwed by the big banks and I'm getting madder and madder.

'Then this guy walks into my office and says,' continued Carrell before Gosling, 34, is shown and finishes: 'There's some shady stuff going down.'

Pitt, 51, looked almost unrecognisable portraying Ben Hockett as his hair was longer than usual and worn down as he sported a grizzled beard and a pair of large, old school wireframe spectacles.

Carrell could be seen later in the trailer explaining their plan as he said: 'The banks got greedy and we could profit off of their stupidity.'

Several short cuts follow including Carrell giving a speech, gambling, Gosling (Greg Lippmann) kissing a $47million cheque, Bale playing the drums and all the big players during a meeting together.

The plan: Carrell has several big lines in the two-minute clip as he said: 'The banks got greedy and we could profit off of their stupidity'
