When you live with one of the world's funniest talk show hosts, you are just one picture away from being a punch line at any given moment.

Just ask Portia De Rossi, who was left mortified after wife Ellen DeGeneres decided to share some of her extensive collection of candid photos on her show on Wednesday.

Thinking she was coming on to have a chat and talk about their recent seven year wedding anniversary, the 42-year-old actress was left literally trying to hide behind the back of the couch as her love showed her favourite sneaky snaps.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show host explained: 'I take pictures of Portia all the time, 'cos she's pretty.

'But she has hair that is very, very thick, so there are hairstyles on her that I go ''I just have to take a picture of this.'''

A mortified Portia was left repeatedly saying, 'Oh god!' as her 57-year-old wife went through the sneaky bad hair day snaps.

The blonde nearly ran away as one picture popped up with her wearing not make-up and her hair sticking up in crazy haphazard curls.

Ellen explained her muse's look: 'That's just waking up in the morning, I guess the night before you had a style or something.

'She's just sitting there, I have to take a picture when she has no idea she looks like that.'

But Portia now has a plan to get her beloved back: 'She takes pictures constantly, you know there's Instagram?'

But it is not only bad hair day photos that Ellen has collected over the past seven years with her wife - she also knows a thing or two about who Portia has a crush on.

The ladies went head to head with Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone in the Not So Newlywed Game.

The two Hollywood power couples were asked questions about their respective partners before coming out on stage to show how well they know each other.

Despite being in a relationship for 17 years - ten of which as husband and wife - Melissa and Ben came up short and did not get a single question right.

While it can be argued that they might have had the tougher questions, the two comedians certainly know how to get a laugh.

When asked what word would Melissa use to describe him, Ben said: 'Good enough'.

While she actually said 'kind', the actress did offer up the person who her husband has a crush on - he just second guessed her.

When asked who Melissa thought his celebrity crush was, the director responded: 'It's creepy and no longer true, [but] Jennifer Aniston.'

Portia also picked Ellen's old crush - Justin Timberlake - when it is now Harry Styles.

Ellen, however, knew exactly who her wife has a crush on - Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Portia explained: 'Because he kinda looks like a girl, and you know I have a well...'

The couple really turned up the heat when the Arrested Development star was asked what candy Ellen would describe their love life as - Starburst, Good and Plenty, Hot Tamales, Mounds or O Henry.

Obviously things are not too shabby in that department as the talk show host said Hot Tamales, however, her wife thought she would have said O Henry.

'I don't even know what that means,' Ellen said.

Portia was also confused: 'I don't either but it is the funniest one and you always go for the joke.'

To which Ellen replied: 'Not when I'm competitive I don't.'
