'I wanted to really express myself': Model Karlie Kloss on why she is chronicling her 'authentic' life on her new YouTube channel

With more than 250,000 subscribers to her YouTube channel, supermodel Karlie Kloss may be the most famous rising vlogger, however, the blonde beauty sees her videos as away for her fans to get to know the real her.

The 23-year-old, who is one of the highest paid models in the world, launched Klossy in July, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at her glamorous life and her philanthropic pursuits.

'I wanted to have a way to really express myself and share my experiences in a more three-dimensional way, more than just an image and more than just a few words,' she explained to Co.Create

In the past two months, Karlie has filmed herself backstage at the Victoria's Secret fashion show, at Paris Fashion Week, and traveling to Haiti with fellow model Christy Turlington.

'Obviously, as a model, being in the pages of Vogue is one of the pinnacles within your career, but it’s not always a reflection of me,' she said of her career. 'But it's actually me on my YouTube channel - you actually see me, you hear me.'

Last week, Karlie 'raided' Vogue's closet for New York Fashion week as part of a video collaboration between the magazine and YouTube.

The model credited the partnership for allowing her to observe Amanda Steele, Rachel Levin and other internet sensations who created their own videos for the fashion-oriented project.

'It's been a new learning curve for me to create my own content,' Karlie admitted. 'It was perfect timing, because I’m new to the YouTube community.'

Karlie, who said she tries not to overthink her own videos too much, noted that her successful episodes are the ones that are the 'most raw and real and untouched'.

However, Karlie admitted she wasn't always so social media savvy. When she was discovered at 13-years-old, she started modeling long before she had her own Instagram and Twitter Accounts.

Karlie explained that her career gave her a first hand look at how social media has changed the way creative people share information and get inspired.

'When I was first backstage at shows, nobody was backstage tweeting, Instagramming, YouTubing live from backstage,' she recalled. 'Now backstage you can livestream what’s happening, you can livestream the show, you can feel like you’re there.'

And while Karlie said she 'hardly ever' used her Facebook account in high school, she is now an Instagram sensation with 3.2 million followers.

In addition to modeling and vlogging, the quadruple threat has her own philanthropic line of cookies and uses her free time to study computer coding. It was her passion for software engineering that led her to recently create a coding scholarship for young women at the Flatiron school where she studied in 2014.

However, Karlie, who happens to be best friends with Taylor Swift, insists that she is a 'normal 23-year-old girl'.

Earlier this month, she started her freshman year at New York University where she is taking an introductory writing course with the school's other students.

Karlie noted: 'For me, it’s being true to who I am and the things that I care about, the things I enjoy - a lot of the things that I post about on Instagram and make vlogs about are things that I am truly passionate about or curious about.'

'I think to be authentic, you really just have to not be afraid to be yourself.'
