'Ikea is Swedish for f*** you!' Ryan Reynolds is driven to drink as he attempts to build a baby crib in hilarious video

He welcomed daughter James just nine months ago, so new dad Ryan Reynolds has no doubt navigated some steep learning curves.

The 38-year-old actor's handy-man skills were put to the test when he was tasked by GQ to put together an Ikea baby crib for a funny clip to accompany his cover story this week.

However, the Green Lantern star miserably fails - and is even driven to drink while trying to construct the piece of furniture, making it all the more amusing.

Ryan appears confident at first as he utters 'easy' while giving the instructions a brief once-over before flinging them on the floor.

But it's not long before he becomes completely exasperated and puts a call into the Swedish furniture store.

'Oh, hi there, I'm calling about your uh... the Hensvik baby crib.'

Blake Lively's husband then explains how perplexed he is at the amount of parts that came with the piece of furniture.

'No no no - there's no problem with it, the biggest issue I'm having right now is that the crib didn't come assembled.

'There's just an enormous amount of hardware that's come with this unit. I'm having a real hard time putting this thing together.'

As he speaks to customer services, a hilarious B-roll montage shows the actor on his knees trying to figure out the parts before irritably uttering 'Ikea is Swedish for f*** you'

Ryan is then seen popping open a bottle of beer as he is heard joking with Ikea staff 'Well, besides a slow descent into alcoholism, I'm just really having trouble finding all the screws and the pieces that go with it.

'I'm just wondering if there is a representative - or five - who can come by and make this happen for me.'

Cutting corners rather dramatically the actor decided to duct tape the whole thing together before throwing in some seat cushions.

Ryan features on the October edition of GQ along with Rob Lowe and Michael B. Jordan for their 'How-To' issue.

In the interview Ryan revealed that he cut a trusted friend - whom he'd known for 25 years - out of his life after discovering they had been shopping pictures from the hospital delivery room to tabloids shortly after his child was born.

'There isn't really a conversation to have. It's just, "Oh, well, now I'm never going to see you or talk to you again, unfortunately." That's kind of how it worked out,' he said.

'It was a slightly dark period. A bad couple of weeks. It was like a death.'
