  • But he canceled the plan a month later after spotting huge discrepancies
  • He and his girlfriend returned their phones but continued to receive bills
  • Slusher was stunned when voice operator told him he owed $2,156,593.64

An Oregon couple were stunned to be landed with a Verizon bill for more than $2million on a phone plan they had for just a month.

Ken Slusher, of Damascus, paid a down payment on a new house this week and was looking forward to moving in soon with his girlfriend and their children.

But the cost of his brand new house is dwarfed by the enormous balance Verizon claimed the couple owe on their account.

FOX12 reported that when Slusher called an automated phone line to check his account balance, a voice recording states: ‘Your total amount due is $2,156,593.64.’

With such a huge debt on his shoulders, Slusher fears he will lose his new house as his mortgage company won’t sign off on his loan.

‘If I don’t get this straightened out in the next 24 hours, I can almost guarantee I’ll lose this house,’ he told FOX12.

Slusher said he and his partner opened an account with Verizon in November last year and bought two phones.

But they canceled the service after just a month after noticed huge discrepancies on their bills and returned both phones to a local store in January.

He claims the first bill should have been for around $120 – instead it asked for $698 and showed a previous balance for $451.

Strangely, the next bill asked for only $9.

‘The number of errors and the comedy of which they happened is astounding to me,’ he said.

After they canceled the service, they started receiving demands from a number of collection agencies asking for thousands of dollars.

Slusher says the couple have gone around in circles with customer service representatives for nearly ten months, who acknowledge mistakes have been made with their account.

He said he canceled the plan after noticing huge discrepancies. The first bill (pictured above) was supposed to be for around $120, but instead asked for $698

And when the issue was still not resolved, he decided to check his balance again and was horrified to hear he now supposedly owed more than $2million.

‘It’s been very stressful to say the least,’ he added.

In a statement to FOX12 on Tuesday evening, a Verizon spokesman apologized for the mistake, which was blamed on a programming error in the automated voice response system.

The company said the problem is now being resolved.

It said: ‘We are correcting the error now and have resolved the issue to his satisfaction.’
