- Tottenham also had their stadium vandalised by Arsenal fans that night
- Spurs later apologised to Gretzky on Twitter and will send him a new shirt
Tottenham have apologised to Canadian ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky after spelling his name incorrectly on the back of a shirt.
Gretzky was at White Hart Lane to see Spurs' lose 2-1 to Arsenal in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday - and was handed the jersey in a ceremony before the game.
But on a miserable night all round for Tottenham - where they not only lost to their bitter rivals but also had their stadium vandalised by Arsenal fans - someone at Spurs managed to spell the greatest goal scorer in the history of the National Hockey League's name wrong.

Gretzky, pictured in his playing days for the Canadian national hockey team, accepted Spurs' apology
Former Spurs captain Ledley King was given the job of handing the shirt to 'The Great One' which read 'Gretsky' with the number 99 before kick-off.
Despite the mix-up, Gretzky showcased the legendary Canadian politeness as he posed for photos with the misspelled shirt.
Shortly after posting pictures of Gretzky with the jersey on Twitter, Spurs deleted the tweets and apologised to their guest of honour.
'Our sincere apologies to @OfficialGretzky for the shirt error. New one on its way!' they tweeted.
Gretzky was quick to accept the apology.
'Not to worry @SpursOfficial It happens all the time!' he wrote.
