She is used to walking the red carpet and dealing with her adoring public.

However not all encounters with fans are easy, as Kerry Washington discovered when she was heading to Good Morning America in New York for an appearance on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old was left slightly shaken by an encounter with a woman who didn't seem to take no for an answer when she tried to take the star's picture.

Help: A passer by and policeman were on hand to try and calm the lady down, and pulled her away

Kerry, who was heading into the studio to do an interview, was ambushed by the over zealous fan who rushed up to her to try to get a photo and have a conversation with the actress.

The Scandal star was having a quick touch up to her make-up and was surrounded by a small group of people when the fracas happened.

She appeared stunned and uncomfortable as the woman brandished her phone in her face.

Unaware: Kerry, who was heading into the studio to do an interview, was ambushed by the over zealous woman who rushed up to her to try to get a photo and have a conversation with the actress

A passer by and policeman were on hand to try and calm the lady down, and pulled her away.

Thanks to the help of some men who were nearby, the lady was escorted away and Kerry was able to make her way into the studio for her appearance.

The star showed no signs of the altercation she had experienced.

Kerry had chosen a vivid red gown for her early morning slot.

The dress had a flirty flared skirt which stopped just above the knee.

She teamed it with a pair of black pointed toe high heels that featured crimson flowers in varied hues.

Recount: She looked like she could have been relaying the incident

Professional: There was no sign of any distress when she was in front of the cameras

Aplomb: She looked thoughtful at one point but not in away upset by the incident

Kerry Washington made an appearance on Good Morning America looking like a lady in red.

The 38-year-old donned a red sleeveless flare dress along with some GORGEOUS black satin pumps with floral detailing.

As much as we love her Giambattista Valli dress, are eyes are drawn to the beauties on her feet.

Although at first glance, one may think these are Dolce & Gabbana or even Prada, but think again darlings, these babies are from Paul Andrew's Spring 2016 collection.

Kerry was on the show to discuss the season 3 premiere of Scandal.

In the show she plays Olivia Pope, a crisis management expert who works with politicians and power brokers in Washington DC.

It didn't seem to be a good day for Kerry because after her appearance she had a minor wardrobe malfunction on her way to her next appearance.

The star had changed into an dark green frock which featured pale yellow flowers.

They featured a black patterned design.

However they were the cause of a potential minor mishap.
