SPOILER ALERT! Ryan Murphy's gruesome comedy horror show Scream Queens shocks viewers by killing off big star in first episode

Showrunner Ryan Murphy warned Scream Queens' famous cast would be killed off faster than anyone expects.

And he was true to his word, killing off one of the biggest shows during the premiere episode of Fox's campy horror comedy on Tuesday.

The show's cast includes Lea Michele, Nick Jonas, Emma Roberts, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, Ariana Grande and Jamie Lee Curtis.

The new show is set at fictional Wallace University, where a serial killer dressed as school mascot 'The Red Devil' is picking off members of the snobby Kappa sorority.

And Grande was one of his first victims - finishing her off as she live tweeted her death.

Roberts plays mean girl and Kappa ringleader Chanel Oberlin.

The show began with a tragic incident on campus in 1995, before moving into the present day, where someone out for revenge is killing off sorority girls.

Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis plays no-nonsense Dean Munsch, who is forcing the elite Kappas to open their doors to everyone, much to their horror.

With all the big names, viewers were left shocked when Ariana Grande's character, called Chanel #2, was killed by the Red Devil in the first half of the 2-hour premiere.

Show creator Ryan Murphy, who also created American Horror Story and Glee, had promised someone will be killed off in every episode.

'One thing we’ve said to the cast is that every episode someone is going,' he previously told Entertainment Weekly.

'It’s always somebody you least suspect or expect. The killer is on a reign of terror,' he said.

'There’s a real tune-in factor because it’s like, 'who's going to be picked off this week? And also who is the killer?'

'Every episode, you get clues as to who the killer is going to be and then all of these clues accumulate.'

However, Murphy promised all will be revealed at the end of the series, and that some characters will survive for season two, which will be set in a new location.
