Growing up: Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler made the video to mark turning 13

The film is narrated by actress Chloe Sevigny, and opens with her reading passages from Dear Diary by Leslie Arfin, a collection of funny entries from the personal diaries of young women aged 12 to 25.

'In a parallel universe I was never hated in junior high. I was never the most popular, but definitely not the most hated either,' Sevigny can be heard saying as the video opens.

'I would go to a state college, and find a boring job one day, where I would sit in a cubicle. This is always how I pictured that my life would have turned out, had my junior high school experience not been so traumatizing.'

As Sevigny continues, Ziegler is shown slumped over her desk in a classroom, writing on her bed and reading the infamous teen angst novel Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews in a diner.

'So every day I thank God I was miserable. Seriously. I'm so glad it was a nightmare. It could have been a lot worse.'

'And sometimes, when I feel like I'm boring, I actually wish it were.'

Midway through the video, however, the mood changes as music kicks in and Ziegler begins to bust the choreography skills that she has shown off on Lifetime and in Sia’s music videos. She moves around the classroom, twirls through the diner and does an impressive series of backflips down the hallway to convey the message that individuality should be celebrated.

Ziegler is slowly transitioning from being a reality star to one of the most sought after teen style icons in Hollywood. She may have been known for her amazing dance choreography, but her skill set does not end there.

She recently attended several shows at New York Fashion Week, including Rebecca Minkoff, Christian Siriano and Zac Posen. Ziegler told Entertainment Tonight that she wanted to move into acting, and has hopes of being in a movie or starring in a scripted TV series.
