A man has been arrested following a tense nine-hour siege situation in Brisbane after he called police claiming to have guns and a hostage inside a share house.

The man called triple-0 at about 9.30pm on Thursday night making threats and claiming to be armed at a home on Jeays Street at Bowen Hills in Brisbane.

Police ramped up their siege operation about 2am and sealed off the street as they surrounded the house.

The man was arrested and taken into police custody just before 6.30am.

Officers had been negotiating with the man for several hours before the stand-off came to an end.

Police are yet to verify the man’s claims to be armed.

Investigators are now on the scene, amid further reports there was someone else inside the unit.

Streets surrounding the home have now reopened after traffic diversions were put in place with Hamilton Place closed between O’Connell and Campbell Streets and Jeay Street is also closed.
