X Factor judge Guy Sebastian is tossed into pool by bolshy boy band In Stereo who Simon Cowell insists will win the show as they go through to the top 12

He's been a supportive and helpful advisor to The X Factor musical acts assigned to his category 'Groups'.

But on Thursday's episode, the three bands Guy Sebastian picked to join the 12 finalists for Sunday's live performances, including Northern Beaches boys In Stereo, showed their gratitude by pushing the 33-year-old into a hotel pool.

Upon hearing the good news, the three selected acts high-fived their mentor before grabbing and shoving him into the cold water.

Singing duo Jess and Matt, The Fisher Boys, and the In Stereo boys had been enjoying the trip of a lifetime in Abu Dhabi when the former Australian Idol winner delivered the good news. 

They couldn't contain their excitement as they circled their mentor, Guy, screeching with excitement.

Music guru Simon Cowell was so impressed with In Stereo, he told Guy: 'They could win this show after watching them perform by Walk The Moon during the latest round of the contest in London, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Singers Michaela Baranov, Georgia Denton, and Mahalia Simpson were also in the United Arab Emirates capital city to hear their positive fate from mentor Dannii Minogue. 

Meanwhile, back in London, Natalie Conway, Dan Hamill, and Louise Adams were selected by James Blunt.  

American rock musician Chris Isaak chose Big T, Jimmy Davis, and Michael Duchense.

Among the eliminated were Madison Milewski, Emelia Kelberg, Gazelle, and girl band Paris Inc. 

The twenty acts performed in front of the show's creator Simon Cowell, and singers Rita Ora and Olly Murs in London on Wednesday night's episode of the show. 

Singer Louise caught 55-year-old Simon's eye, with him declaring: 'That's your winner.'

Turning to her mentor James after she'd left the room, he went on: 'I love her. You’re going to remember her – that voice.’
