He told ESPN: 'We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete.

'I heard that there were offers but none were made to me.'

United eventually signed Anthony Martial from Monaco on deadline day, and the Frenchman has hit the ground running with four goals in his first four matches in all competitions.

But some United fans will surely view Neymar as the one that got away, with a record that speaks for itself. Last season, he netted 40 goals in 54 appearances for club and country.

Neymar is now concentrating on improving as a player at the Nou Camp, and has one clear aim for the season... to make it into the top three players in the world.

He continued: 'I want to keep giving my all and evolve season to season. I hope I will be on the Ballon d'Or podium this year.'
