Mikael Silvestre is surprised Arsenal have emerged as Manchester United's main rivals for the league this season but still expects his side to take the title.

Arsenal were fourth in the last two campaigns but now top the table, two points ahead of United.

"I am surprised to see Arsenal doing so well, like a lot of people simply because they are a young team," said the defender. "They are young, but they all have good experience in the Premier League.

"We are again competing for the championship. I think the club has done some great signings to improve again the quality of the team, which gives us a lot of confidence to win the league again and the Champions League."

A serious knee injury means Silvestre has played only three games this season but he hopes to be back in March.
