An 8-month-old baby boy was found dead in the parking lot of a Walmart in northeast Ohio after he was left in a car by two family members for nearly 10 hours.

Police received a 911 call at around 5.30pm Wednesday that the boy, later identified as Jayce Markell Benjamin, was discovered unresponsive in an SUV by his grandmother, a Macedonia Walmart employee.

The incident, which police are calling a ‘tragic accident,’ began after a father took his four children to a day care center just before 8.00am.

For about three hours, the SUV was parked in the shade at the family's home, but then the boy's grandmother drove it to work, not realizing the baby was still in the back

Lt. Vince Yakopovich said the man dropped off three of the kids but forgot about baby Jayce, who was seated in the SUV’s third row.

After the children were taken to the day care, the father drove the maroon Buick Rendezvous back to the family's home in Garfield Heights and parked it in a shaded driveway.

There it remained until 11am, when Jayce's grandmother got int the SUV and drove to work without realizing the child was still in the back seat, reported NewsNet5

It was not until the 8-month-old's siblings were brought home from day care that his mother realized her youngest son was not with them.

The woman then called her mother at Walmart, who went out to the SUV in the parking lot and discovered the baby boy in the backseat.

Accident: An autopsy on the child to determine the cause of death, but police do not believe the baby was intentionally harmed

The infant was pronounced dead at the scene at 5.45pm. The Summit County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy on the child to determine the cause of death.

Police said they do not believe Jayce Benjamin was intentionally harmed.
