Speaking with Vanity Fair after his recent New York Fashion Week presentation, West said he 'definitely' plans on running in 2020.

He then went on to explain why he may be more qualified than many believe him to be, pointing out the education of his parents.

'I’ve got five years before I go and run for office and I’ve got a lot of research to do, I’ve got a lot of growing up to do,' said West.

'My dad has two masters degrees. My mom has a PhD, she used to work at Operation PUSH.

'Somehow the more and more creative I get, the closer and closer I get to who I was as a child. When I was a child, I was holding my mom’s hand at Operation PUSH. I think it’s time.'

Operation PUSH is the non-profit organization that was founded by Jesse Jackson to pursue social justice, civil rights and political activism.

He went on to say that as much as he loves rap - and will always be a 'rock star' - he at some point wants to become his 'mother's son.'

West said; 'It’s fun to be a rock star, and I’ll never not be one I guess, but there’ll be a point where I become my mother’s child.

'With all the things I’ve done that people would consider to be accomplishments, what’s the point where I become the person that Donda and Raymond West raised? My parents’ child.'

Prior to this West also revealed there is one candidate running for office right now he is very impressed with - Ben Carson.

'As soon as I heard Carson speak, I tried for three weeks to get on the phone with him. I was like this is the most brilliant guy,' said West.

The rapper has also shown his support for Hillary Clinton however, attending one of her fundraisers and taking a selfie with the popular Democrat.

He also said he believes in working together, and does not like the way elections pit candidates against one another.

'The idea of this separation and this gladiator battle takes away from the main focus that the world needs help and the world needs all the people in a position of power or influence to come together,;' said West.

For the time being however, West said his first priority is his family - daughter North and wife Kim Kardashian, who is pregnant with the couple's second child, a son.

After that comes his music and then his fashion line he said And in between those three it seems he will find the time to prepare himself to run for office.
