'I have a big butt!': Mindy Kaling jokes about her curves as she splits the seam of her tight dress while filming her TV show

One of the many reasons fans adore Mindy Kaling is her quick-witted humor and she's always proven she's a 'real' girl.

The 36-year-old creator, executive producer and star of her hit sitcom The Mindy Project took to Instagram on Wednesday to post a hilarious wardrobe malfunction.

In a tight-fitting, short purple dress with black lace trim the comedian split her dress down her backside while filming a scene for the show.

'When you split the seam of your dress doing some physical comedy because you have a big butt and you need to be sewn up. Glenn is brave. #themindyproject,' Kaling posted.

Kaling had a sense of humor about the incident and posted alongside the caption a photo of her dress being sewn from behind.

Mindy attended the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday in a sparkly yellow gown by Salvador Perez and while she didn't take home an award the star has much to celebrate.

The Mindy Project began its fourth season on Tuesday when it premiered for the first time on Hulu. 

Mindy also released her highly-anticipated second book, Why Not Me? on the very same day.

Kaling plays Dr. Mindy Lahiri, a young Ob/Gyn doctor who got engaged to Dr. Danny Castellano, played by Chris Messina last season and the couple was expecting their first child together.

Kaling opened up about where she gets her confidence in a 2013 interview with Parade Magazine.

'There are little Indian girls out there who look up to me, and I never want to belittle the honor of being an inspiration to them,' she said. 

'I always get asked, "Where do you get your confidence," I think people are well meaning, but it's pretty insulting,' she explained.

'Because what it means to me is, you, Mindy Kaling, have all the trappings of a very marginalized person. You're not skinny, you're not white, you're a woman. Why on earth would you feel like you're worth anything?,' she continued.
