'I couldn't go into a supermarket for six years during Twilight': Robert Pattinson discusses the perils of fame in new shoot for NME
After the hype of the Twilight Saga in which he played titular vampire - Edward Cullen - died down, Robert Pattinson has maintained a low-profile.
In a new interview with NME Magazine, the London-born actor has discussed the perils of portraying the lead character in the multi-award winning fantasy film, revealing the frenzy 'drove me crazy'.
Robert, 29, said: 'I had people sitting outside my house every single day, and it drove me crazy. I didn’t go into a supermarket for about six years.

The perils of fame: Robert Pattinson has admitted playing the leading role - Edward Cullen - in The Twilight Saga meant he was unable to visit a supermarket for six years
'But now I can go in and chat to the guy who’s working there about his kids, or where he’s going on holiday, and not be thinking, 'Is he gonna sell me out?¹ I just don’t have to think about that stuff anymore.'
Although he's spent 11 years under the glare of the Hollywood spotlight, Robert went on to admit he's still not wholly comfortable with the paparazzi snapping him during his everyday life.
'I find the most embarrassing photo that can ever be taken of you is when you¹re in a bookshop and everyone can see what book you¹re buying. They might as well just take a picture of me having a w**k,' he said.

Although he's got countless awards to his name and an endless list of admirable credits, his confidence and self-belief is far from sky-high.
'I¹ve never wanted anyone to hear what I¹m saying, because it¹s probably stupid,' he said before adding that he sometimes Googles himself to 'reinforce my negative opinion of myself'.
Robert is currently gearing up for the release of his latest film - Life - a biographical drama based on photographer Dennis Stock and Hollywood pin-up James Dean's friendship.
Not blowing his own trumpet: The Lost City of Z actor said, 'I¹ve never wanted anyone to hear what I¹m saying, because it¹s probably stupid'
The movie is due to be released in America on December 4.
Meanwhile, The Lost City of Z actor's private life has apparently seen better days as his year-long relationship with singer and performer FKA twigs is said to be in jeopardy.
A source told People recently: 'They've definitely drifted and have barely spoken while he's in Belfast and she's been in the States.'
The couple are rumoured to be engaged although neither party has discussed the speculation publicly so far.
