At one point, Harry Styles appeared to be lying on the floor in despair.

Ever the professionals, Harry and co kept the audience occupied as sound engineers worked behind the scenes to fix the issues, inviting the audience to sing instead.

Niall told the 20,000 fans 'we've performed all over the world and this has never happened' as they apologised profusely.

Meanwhile, as the band were performing, their former bandmate Zayn Malik posted a cryptic tweet, which no doubt could be interpreted as a dig at One Direction by some.

Around 10.30pm on Thursday, Zayn tweeted: 'Forget about gimmicks, it's all about lyrics.'

Since quitting the band in March, Zayn has been working on a solo album.

When he signed a deal with RCA Records in July, he upset many fans by tweeting he was going to make 'real music'.
