Controversial television presenter Jeremy Kyle has split from his model wife, just months after moaning on television that they had not had sex for ages.

The ITV star, 49, is said to have separated amicably from wife Carla Germaine after 13 years, and three children, together.

Kyle is best known for coping with the fall-out from other people's relationship troubles during his morning television talk show.

News of their break-up comes after Kyle made a frank admission about the couple's sex life during his self-titled show in June, while interrogating a woman about whether she'd cheated on her partner.

She had declared: 'Listen, I get sex from [my boyfriend] whenever I want. I don't need to go and get sex from someone else.'

The TV host snapped back: 'Tell him then! I've had enough talking about it. I haven't had sex for ages myself.'

Ms Germaine, 40, who married Kyle in 2002, and is the mother of their three children Henry, Alice and Ava, is Kyle's second wife.

His first marriage to Kirsty Rowley ended in 1990 after a year together and the pair have daughter Harriet, 25.

During that marriage, Kyle – who was a recruitment consultant at the time – is said to have hosted a weave of intricate lies in an attempt to cover his own destructive and expensive gambling habit.

According to his ex-wife, who has since remarried, he took money from her bank account without her permission or knowledge, racking up thousands of pounds in debt in order to fund his addiction.

The couple had met in 1988 when Kyle, whose father was a secretary in the Royal Household, joined the Bristol recruitment agency where Kirsty was a secretary.

However, despite a 'romantic' beginning to their relationship, it soon broke down upon their return from honeymoon with reports of constant rowing.

Eventually, when their daughter was just five months old, Kyle is said to have stormed out of the family home following an argument and never returned.

He later moved his career into radio, aged 31, after applying for an on-air post while working in the sales department of Westcountry station Orchard FM.

He worked at various local stations including BRMB radio station in Birmingham which later led him to meet his second wife.

The pair met in 1999 when Ms Germaine, then a 23-year-old model, entered a competition run by the radio station to marry a total stranger.

As part of the contest, Two Strangers And A Wedding, she was selected to tie the knot with Greg Cordell, a groom chosen by the station.

The competition made headlines around the world and the pair tied the knot in a lavish on-air ceremony at the Hyatt Hotel in Birmingham before enjoying a prize honeymoon to the Bahamas, a rent-free apartment and a paid-for car for a year.

However, three months later the marriage was over and she began dating Kyle.

He later told The Scotsman newspaper: 'I have always said I completely and utterly disagreed with the competition and I was one of only two DJs who would have nothing to do with it.

'I met her three months later and she was like a rabbit in the headlights. She would tell you in her Brummie lingo that it was Monday, it was January, she had been dumped and was hungover, and her mate said, 'Why don't we go for it?''

The pair ended up being married for 13 years, with Carla supporting Kyle through his operation and subsequent chemotherapy when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2012.

He spoke openly about the value of her unwavering support, crediting his wife with helping him through the treatment.

He told The Sun at the time: 'It's been a horrific time - a very sobering experience - but now I just feel lucky to be alive.

'I feel lucky that I'm here for family and can see my kids grow up.

'To be honest, I thought, 'That's it, I'm dead'. The phone call I made to Carla was one of the most difficult of my life.'

He also previously revealed how she stood by him despite his gambling addiction, which left him thousands of pounds in debt.

The father-of-four, who became a TV star after ITV executives scouted him while working on London's Capital Radio in 2004, once admitted that gambling 'was 'the mistress that truly seduced me'.

At one stage he found himself £12,000 in debt and was handed an ultimatum by his bank manager: pay £487 every month until the debt was cleared or be declared bankrupt.

He said: 'What problems I had I worked at, and the loan I took out to clear my debts I paid back, bit by bit, pound by pound.'

His wife also stood by his side in 2007 when claims emerged that he had enjoyed a fling with a 16-year-old girl.

The allegations were made by a friend of schoolgirl, Becky Hayes, who claimed Kyle struck up a relationship with the teenager while she was on work experience with him.

Despite coming to light in 2007, the allegations were in relation to Kyle's time at BRMB radio station in Birmingham – when he was aged 35 and in the early stages of his relationship with Ms Germaine.

However, despite being accused of 'taking advantage' of the schoolgirl by allegedly flirting with her and kissing her, he strongly denied the claims.

At the time, his solicitor told the now-defunct News of the World: 'We are instructed that our client's sole contacts with Ms Hayes occurred more than six years ago, and were by telephone only.

'Our client never met Ms Hayes and only spoke to her on the telephone during a period of months before he was married to his wife.'

Ms Germaine stood by her man throughout the allegations and was no doubt forced to console him once again when his dreams of breaking America were dashed.

His talk show was scrapped after just two seasons in December 2012, after it failed to find an audience.

Kyle has previously gushed about how supportive his wife is of him and his problems, having remained by his side throughout some of his darkest times.

He once said: 'In Carla, I have a wife in whom I can confide about anything.

'The minute I have a problem, I go to her. The minute I have made a mistake, I know I can go to her.'
