Not so Honourable Woman: Maggie Gyllenhaal is tapped to play a hooker in new HBO series about porn industry

She may have failed to win an Emmy on Sunday, but it looks like The Honourable Woman star will get another shot.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, the 37-year-old Dark Knight actress and sister of superstar Jake Gyllenhaal, is set to play entrepreneurial hooker Eileen Merrell, a.k.a. Candy, in an upcoming HBO series, according to Entertainment Weekly.

It will be her first stint as a series regular on a television show if the show is indeed picked up for a full season.

Gyllenhaal recently made waves as she was nominated for a Lead Actress Emmy for her latest TV role as Nessa Stein on the hit miniseries The Honourable Woman. 

In the miniseries, she starred as an Anglo-Israeli woman who inherits her father's arms dealing business, while also advocating for peace in the middle east.

The show premiered on the BBC in the United Kingdom and on SundanceTV in the United States.

According to EW, the star's new HBO show, called The Deuce, will feature her as a enterprising prostitute working in Times Square in New York City during the 1970s and 80s. It will detail her character's involvement in the rise and legalization of the porn industry, as well as the impacts of drugs and HIV on the industry and the city as a whole.

EW already confirmed that James Franco will also have a role playing twin mobsters on the show.

Of course it won't be the 37-year-old Pineapple Express star's first outing on TV.

The very short lived but nonetheless beloved Freaks and Geeks essentially launched the young hunk's career back in 1999. 

It sounds as though it will be a chance for awards for all involved, as The Wire creator David Simon is teaming up with Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad director Michelle MacLaren to produce the possibly prurient show.
