'Fine be that way!' Anne Hathaway laughs off a back-handed compliment from Seth Meyers after he admitted their chat felt like it dragged on for 'hours'

Anne Hathaway cringed as late night talk show host Seth Meyers on Thursday admitted he felt like their interview had gone on 'for hours.'

Meyers was left red-faced as he accidentally insulted the Hollywood star after she told him The Devil Wears Prada came out ten years ago.

'That's crazy to me. I have a weird sense of time though. I feel like we have been talking for hours,' he said.

'No, no in a good way,' Meyers insisted.

Hathaway seemed to take the mistake in stride but pulled a sad face and turned away from Meyers to begin chatting with his laughing audience as he desperately tried to explain himself.

'That's fine. How are you tonight, all of you?' she said coldly.

'No, come on,' said Seth.

Earlier Hathaway told Seth she recently could not introduce herself to Mariah Carey on the red carpet as she knew she would make a terrible impression on her favorite pop star.

Hathaway was captured on film freaking out when Mariah walked past her at the New York City premiere of The Intern.

Hathaway, 32, told Seth she was not good at acting cool when she meets famous people.

'I still have not met her,' Anne revealed.

'I know you want to run up and say ''Hey how's it going?'' but if you are not going to sit down and have a meal with them or work with them, sometimes when you meet, I am not good at meeting people,' she said.

Seth asked her if she was worried she was going to make a bad impression.

'I am not worried, I know. It is so happening, I am not good at keeping it together and cool,' she told him.

Seth then told her to imagine him as Mariah Carey and to act like she would have if she had met the superstar.

'Ok, this is going to sound so weird but my cousin and I used to have a mechanical reindeer and we named it Charm Bracelet after your album, it is so nice to meet you,' she laughed.

'That is a true story, you are welcome. It is not a very good story, she would have been very taken with it,' Anne said.

Anne told Seth that she was determined to enjoy working with Hollywood legend Robert De Niro while filming The Intern after 'freaking out' when she worked with Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada.

'This one I told myself to get over it as soon as I can and in two weeks on this I had just chilled out,' she said.

Anne said she was also proud of herself for making De Niro laugh after he was asked in a press interview how the movie would have been different if made in the 1970s.

'I told him my character would have been a man and there would have been a lot more cocaine, and he laughed, I was so psyched, a big laugh,' she said.

Seth then asked her if it was true that when she was young she had wanted to become a nun and why that had not happened.

'I had sex, I don;t know' Anne laughed.

'Oh yeah, 32 and married baby,' she said as the crowd cheered.

'I really, genuinely thought it was going to be a beautiful thing to have a life of service but I also hadn't had sex yet. That is what happened,' she said.
