SPOILER ALERT: Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald Grant get hot and heavy in several steamy sex scenes for Scandal Season Five premiere
She had an emotional goodbye with Jake Ballard only to reunite with an old flame at the end of the last season.
And it looks like old habits die hard for Olivia Pope.
The former White House Director of Communications, played by Kerry Washington, was shown getting rather intimate with President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) in several steamy scenes that opened up the season five of Scandal.
CAUTION: SPOILERS AHEAD
Let's get it on: It was straight back to business for Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and President Fitzgerald Grant Tony Goldwyn
A very extensive sex montage is shown between the two of the main stars featuring plenty of skin and heavy-breathing.
The two actors can be seen rolling around in bed and enjoying some pretty extensive one on one time in the opening minutes of season five of the show.
All this was taking place while Sally Langston (Kate Burton) can be heard making a speech, talking about Fitz celebrating 'betrayal' and 'skipping down the road to Sodom and Gomorrah.'
Love is in the air: The pair are seen getting hot and heavy in the show
Pillow talk: As the pair role around on the bed, Sally Langston (Kate Burton) can be heard speaking in the background
Exercising between the sheets: The duo looked quite worn out by their exertions
As the pair attempt to set some sort of lovemaking world record, it is up to the viewer to decide if the speech is about them, as she waxes lyrical about: 'A commoner, an all-American girl' who leaves her normal life for one with a prince.
However, she is actually referring to the visit of royalty - Princess Emily of Caledonia (Hilty Bowen) who is in the US capitol with her family.
Interestingly, the anglicized republic has a strong similarity to the fictional country of Genovia, in the Princess Diaries - Shonda Rimes who wrote Scandal was a co-writer on The Princess Diaries 2.
Back to business: Then it was time for the duo to attend a state banquet in honour of the Royal family from Caledonia
Fitz is having a state dinner for the family as he is trying to convince them to let him open a naval base in their country.
However the Queen isn't having any of it.
At the dinner, Princess Emily overhears Olivia make some remarks to Abby, (Darby Stanchfield) about how nice her life must be.
She tells the women: To most of the world, I’m not a real person anymore,” she says. “To them, I’m not human. I’m just a spectacle. I don’t think they’d say half the things they say if they knew they were hurting an actual person.
She's back: Olivia was seen having a conversation with Abby (played by Darby Stanchfield)
This seems to be a sign that Olivia is soon going to face the music on her love affair with the President.
With his estranged wife Mellie (Bellamy Young), not present, (Abby tells the press she has flu and couldn't attend) mainly because his lover is, it looks like the writing is soon going to be on a very public wall for the pair.
In the wake of the dinner, the Princess is killed in a fatal car crash in a tunnel, a plot device which seems to have drawn from the tragic fatal accident involving Princess Diana.
In the frame: However the royal guests could have blood on their hands after Princess Emily is killed in a fatal tunnel crash - Queen of Caledonia, played by Dearbhla Molloy is pictured
This of course creates some tension between Olivia and Fitz as he was given the opportunity to prosecute his royal guests but chose not to due to political reasons.
The commander in chief threatens his romantic-interest with prosecution if she rebelled, which she ended up doing.
Olivia eventually goes after the queen for killing her daughter-in-law.
She also tells the president that they should not publicly unveil their relationship, however, his former Vice President (Kate Burton) takes it upon herself to make the big reveal on national television.
Back on? Fitz surprised his estranged wife Mellie Grant (played by Bellamy Young) during her senator swearing in ceremony
If that wasn't enough drama for Fitz, he surprises his estranged wife Mellie Grant during her senator swearing in ceremony.
Mellie was happy to see the president there as she was hoping for a reconciliation but it was only to hand her the divorce papers.
While the opening episode of Scandal garnered positive reviews, with fans praising the plotlines some felt it had used too many stereotypes.
Scandal returns for episode two of season five at 9PM next Thursday on ABC.
