Chelsea are making contingency plans as Jose Mourinho fears an injury to Asmir Begovic could ruin their season.
Blues staff have started devising emergency measures in case the Bosnian keeper is injured or suspended.
As it stands Begovic is Chelsea's only recognised senior goalkeeper with first-choice Thibaut Courtois out with a long-term knee injury.
Bosnia international Asmir Begovic is currently the only senior goalkeeper Chelsea have in their squad
Usual No 1 Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is currently sidelined with a serious knee injury
And the consequences of losing Begovic have not escaped diligent Mourinho.
Mourinho has started compiling a list of potential targets in case the worst-case scenario occurs.
The shock name on that list is Manchester United outcast Victor Valdes, who is out of favour at Old Trafford.
However, the likeliness of Louis van Gaal allowing Valdes to join a top-four rival seems remote.
Inter Milan's Juan Pablo Carrizo, Miguel Angel Moya at Atletico Madrid and Porto's veteran keeper Helton - who are all currently out of favour at their clubs - also feature on the list.
Chelsea, however, would require the Premier League's approval to make an emergency loan signing outside the transfer window.

Jamal Blackman is available to Mourinho in case of injury, but could only make the bench in the League Cup
The current Premier League champions would have to demonstrate they do not have adequate goalkeeper cover before being granted permission to make a loan signing.
At the moment Begovic's understudy is rookie keeper Jamal Blackman, 21.
The former England Under-19 custodian has made just one senior career appearance; playing in a Capital One Cup game for Middlesbrough against Liverpool during a loan spell last season.
Despite only having one fit senior goalkeeper; Mourinho fielded Begovic over Blackman in Wednesday's Capital One Cup victory over Walsall.
Last season, Newcastle had to rely on then 21-year-old keeper Jak Alnwick (C) when Tim Krul was injured
Manchester City used an emergency loan rule to sign Sunderland keeper Martin Fulop (second right) in 2010
Manchester City signed Martin Fulop from Sunderland on emergency loan in April 2010 after proving their move for a goalkeeper was under 'exceptional circumstances'
At the time Shay Given and Stuart Taylor were injured, while Joe Hart could not be recalled from his loan spell at Birmingham, leaving City with Faroe Islands' Gunnar Nielsen as their only option.
However, Newcastle were last season denied permission to loan a keeper outside the transfer window despite injuries to Tim Krul and Rob Elliot because they had three fit young goalkeepers on their books at the time.
