'My faith in God allows me to carry on': Savannah Guthrie says her Christianity is what helps her overcome the motherly fears she has for her one-year-old daughter Vale

Savannah Guthrie expressed just how wonderful - and scary - it is to be a mother in an emotional new interview in which she discusses the importance of her religious faith. 

The Today show host, 43, talked to Christian organization Guideposts about her one-year-old daugther , Vale, saying that the 'ultimate blessing' of motherhood has also left her 'emotionally vulnerable' because she is constantly worried about her daughter's safety. 

However, Savannah said she finds peace of mind in Christianity and will make it her mission to impart these values to her child. 'Making sure that Vale grows up knowing about God and Jesus and faith is, I think, one of my most important responsibilities', she shared.

Calling her Christian faith 'one of the most important things in my life', the TV anchor shared: 'I was 41 years old when I got pregnant. It was beyond my wildest dreams to get to have a baby.

'I think God knows the desires of our heart', she mused.

Savannah went on to tell the website: 'I think God showered me with enormous grace and love by allowing me to have a baby at my late age and letting me experience this indescribable joy.'

The TV personality said that her religious faith is what keeps her grounded when she worries about all the things that could possibly happen to her daughter.

'If anything happened to her I would be truly devastated. It's my faith and trust in God that allows me to just carry on', Savannah revealed.

She went on to explain: 'It's this blessed vulnerability, but it's also a little bit frightening to know that you're so exposed.

'The only antidote to that is to trust that God holds her in his hands and that there's a power greater than me that will ensure she's ok.'

The news anchor talked about how important religion was to her own mother, and said she will also raise her daughter to trust in God.

Savannah acknowledged the challenges of being a parent, and admitted she couldn't do the job entirely on her own.

'I'm just starting out on this journey, but I know that throughout Vale's life, I'll be turning to God a lot. 

She further revealed that she constantly repeated one prayer while she was pregnant with her daughter, wishing only that her child would be 'happy, healthy, and have a heart for God.'
