June: There is a new Reading List of the Month feature on the ReadingLists@Hull site. Check out the first of of these to see what can be presented. May: Many articles and book chapters are made available digitally through our Digital Texts service - check it out if you are having difficulty finding a resource in print. Staff - please note that requests for digitisation for the next academic year are now being received; get them in early to ensure prompt availability for the new semester. April: Looking for resources to inform your dissertation, or need some input to spark your revision? Check out the LibGuide for your subject area for specific guidance and pointers. March: Like to find out more about the building work going on around the Library? Keep an eye on the Brynmor Jones Library redevelopment website for the latest news. February: A catch-up on updates this month: Easier access to your reading lists can be found through ReadingLists@Hull: Level 4 lists are now available, and Level 5 lists will be added next. Any items you can't find or get hold of? Try the Document Supply service. And if you need additional assiatnce, please ask us a question. November: Have you tried...? Two new subject resources have become available this month: an archive of the papers of Anglo-Caribbean poet Archie Markham at the Hull History Centre (search the HHC catalogue for information on this and other HHC collections); and a trial of the Routledge Performance Archive October: A new discovery service, Summon, enabling a search across the majority of the Library's electronic resources is now available. You can try it out via the Library website (in the tab next to the catalogue search) or via its own Summon page (which also has further information describing the service): let us know what you think. September: The Library website has been re-configured to provide clearer access to all our services. A major addition is the new section on Skills, highlighting the many resources and courses available to support your study. Also check out the online 'Ask us a question' service. July: It's official - the BJL will be undergoing a major renewal from August 2012 to make it an even better place to study. Further information is available from the University website. June: Looking for reading over the summer? Remember that many e-books and e-journals are available wherever you have access to the Internet. May: For past exam papers from a range of departments check out the Hydra institutional repository in the run up to the exam period. The Library Service Desk has details of how departments provide these if not held in the repository. April: Keep an eye on our Twitter feed for pointers to Library news and resources of interest. Perfect for revision, curiousity and quizzes! You can follow us at #HullUni_Library if you have your own Twitter account. March: Want to keep up to date? Take advantage of RSS feeds from various sources. Look out for the  logo on websites or information on news feeds. See our page on RSS feeds for more information.
February: A good way of managing all the references you need for a dissertation/project report is through the use of RefWorks (available via the web) or EndNote (available through ICTD) January: Need a copy of something in the Library for exam revision? Check out our photocopying facilities (noting copyright regulations on what you can copy - see November) Christmas: For all those accessing our services from afar, there is guidance on how to get the most from the Library and its resources. Happy New Year! December: If you identify an item you need in the catalogue and need to request it from another site (Hull or Scarborough), you can make a request using the online inter-site request forms. | Boolean Operators |
Use "and" or "or" to specify multiple words in any field, any order. Use "and not" to exclude words. Example : stocks and bonds Example : (alaska or canada) and (adventure and not vacation) |
| Proximity Operators |
Use "near" to specify words close to each other, in any order. Example : california near university |
| Field limits | A field limit causes the system to search only the specified field for the specified word(s). |
| Grouping | Keyword search results are usually grouped by relevance to bring the most likely titles to the top of the list. Each group represents a similar level of relevance and results are sorted within the group by date or title. To get an ungrouped result set, use boolean operators to form a complex query. |
