Police looking for vigilante carjacking witness who shot at thieves but accidentally hit victim in the head before fleeing the scene
- A man was carjacked at a Valero gas station in north Houston, Texas on Saturday at approximately 11:15pm
- A witness who saw the theft as it happened pulled out his gun and shot at the suspects as they tried to get away
- The witness accidentally hit the victim in the head; the man is in stable condition at a nearby hospital
- After the shooting, the witness picked up his gun shell casings and left the scene without waiting for police to arrive
- The two suspects drove a few blocks before ditching the truck
- It appears that one or both of the suspects may have been shot as well, as the drivers side window was shattered and blood was found inside the car
A man who was carjacked in Houston, Texas over the weekend is in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound after a witness accidentally shot him in the head while trying to stop the auto thieves.
The incident happened Saturday night at a Valero gas station in North Houston. Authorities say the victim was parked in his truck at the gas station when he was approached by two men who attacked him and stole his vehicle.
An unidentified witness who was parked at a gas pump saw the whole theft going down, pulled out his gun and shot at the suspects as they were getting away in the car.

After the shooting, the witness fled the scene while the suspects drove a few blocks before ditching the vehicle
The victim in the carjacking is still recovering from a gunshot wound to the head and was last reported in stable condition
However, he ended up hitting the victim, sending the innocent man to the hospital for a gunshot wound to the head. The victim has not been identified, but authorities say he is in stable condition at a nearby hospital.
The suspects drove the truck a few blocks before ditching the vehicle, and remain on the loose.
It appears that one or both of the suspects may have been hit as well, as blood was found inside the vehicle and the gunshots shattered the drivers' side of the vehicle.
Police are now asking for the witness who shot at the truck to come forward. They say after the shooting, the witness picked up his shell casings and then fled the scene without waiting for police to arrive.
