SPOILER ALERT: Terror spreads on Fear The Walking Dead as it emerges what National Guard plans to do to survivors
Tensions hit a new high in Sunday's episode of Fear The Walking Dead, when the soldiers' plan to kill the survivors was uncovered.
Corporal Andrew Adams confessed the dark plot after Daniel Salazar resorted to torture to obtain answers.
Daniel, who has been distrustful of the army's intentions since they took over, strapped Corporal Adams to a chair after daughter Ofelia played on his good nature and lured him lured him to her home.
You can always trust the government: Maddie discovered does not always hold true on Fear The Walking Dead on Sunday
Kill 'em all: In fact it emerges the National Guard plan on executing all survivors in an attempt to stop the zombie virus in its tracks
Instructing Madison Clark to keep his daughter away, he told the soldier: 'Before she brought you in, she made me promise that I would not harm you, that we would talk and that I would exchange you for my wife's return. That is not going to happen.'
In shocking scenes, Daniel forced Corporal Adams to give him information as he sliced into his right arm with a barber's blade.
The soldier revealed that Daniel's wife Griselda and Madison's Nick were being kept at a college two miles away and told the barber's shop owner about an arena full of 2000 people who were locked inside.
'I've never seen them turn that fast before. All those people – 2000 of them – trampling on each other,' he said.
Are you sitting comfortably: Daniel decides a little enhanced interrogation of Corporal Adams was in order
Oh Danny boy: He resorts to torture tactics in an attempt to uncover information from his victim
Holding firm: The non-commissioned officer may have been trying to think of other things to take his mind off the coming pain
'They couldn't get out and we couldn't tell the infected from… oh god. We locked them in the arena. I chained the doors. That's what I did.'
But most importantly Corporal Adams revealed the meaning of 'Cobalt' – the code word the survivors had heard soldiers using over walkie talkies.
When a shocked Travis Manawa burst into Daniel's torture room, the barber told Corporal Adams to repeat what he had told him.
Ouch: But he seemed to be cracking as his new friend went to work with his cutting tool
That will loosen the tongue: His shockingly bloodied arm is shown as the show proceeded
Oh the nerve: Daniel explains it is only get more painful the deeper her cuts into his arm
Cutting through the bull: He was later shown washing his blade while hinting he was a torture expert in his old country El Salvador
'Cobalt is the code word to initiate evac,' the groggy soldier said.
'Evac? When do we leave?' Travis asked.
'Not you, just us,' Corporal Adams explained. 'Cobalt includes procedures for the humane termination of…'
'When?' Travis asked.
He has something to tell you: Daniel brings Maddie down to hear what his soldier friend has to say
Cobalt clue: He explains the military are planning to evacuate after killing everyone in the infected area
Oh dear: But Maddie proved to be surprisingly unflappable in the face of the oncoming massacre
'0900 hours tomorrow,' he replied.
While Travis was learning about the soldiers' plan, his ex-wife Liza Ortiz continued to help military doctor Bethany Exner treat the wounded at hospital.
After learning that the medics had to amputate Griselda's foot, Liza snuck in to see her in recovery – but found that she was barely conscious and suffering septic shock.
Dr. Exner told Liza that her brain was swelling and the pair stood at Griselda's bedside as she died.
The doctor quickly reached for a pistol – one used to euthanise livestock – and told a stunned Liza that a bullet through the brain was the only way to stop the dead 'turning'.
As she stepped up to fire the shot Liza intervened, took the pistol and put the bullet in Griselda's head herself.
Shocker: Griselda is not doing well after having her foot chopped off by some helpful medics
Finish her: Dr. Exner told Liza after she died that a bullet in the brain is the only way to stop her becoming a brain-eating zombie
Biting the bullet: After discovering what could happen Liza decided to do the honours herself
Travis, who attempted to reason with the soldiers, clashed with National Guard commanding officer Lieutenant Moyers as he begged for the return of his family members and friends.
'I gather you've got issues with protocol, but I can't concern myself with civilian problems,' Lt. Moyers told him.
'If the ones you took don't come back soon, you're going to have more than me to worry about,' Travis said.
The lieutenant told Travis he would take him to the hospital, but the soldiers' vehicle got diverted when they discovered a building full of walkers.
Travis listened to shots fired and screams over the radio before the other soldiers returned and said Lt. Moyers would not be coming back.
Meanwhile: Travis uses some strong arm diplomacy to persuade some soliders to help him find his family
And off they go: While the area is crawling with zombies he is safe inside their armoured vehicle
Do it yourself: The military men insist that he should kill a member of the walking dead blocking their path since it was his idea to go that way
Donu-thing instead: He chickens out of pulling the trigger when he sees the former fast food worker's badge
Old pro: One of the other solders decides to take matters into his own hands
Nice shootin' partner: He manages to drill the zombie straight through the brain from a great distance
While Alicia Clark and stepbrother Chris Manawa broke into an empty home and trashed it, Daniel found the arena Corporal Adams told him about.
The shocked barber stood at the bottom of the stairs and watched the chained doors strain under the pressure of the walkers inside.
At the hospital, meanwhile, the soldiers threatened to take Nick away after discovering his temperature was unusually high, but Strand bargained for his return in exchange for one of his expensive cufflinks.
Charge: They are diverted by a higher authority up the chain of command to an area that is full of angry brain eaters
Not much of a challenge: At first only one zombie is shown as they make their advance to the building
Taking no chances: But they followed shock and awe doctrine by sending in many more troops than he could handle
Asked by Nick why he had saved him, he cryptically explained: 'I obligated you. There's a difference. The game has changed.
'We return to the old rules and the people who won the last round, with the grande lattes and their frequent flyer miles, are about to become the buffet.
'I look at you and I see you as someone who knows the meaning of necessity. The soldiers are leaving. I'm going to require a man with your talents when I make my move.'
When Nick asked what his move was, Strand opened his palm to reveal a key.
Fever screams: Nick is ordered to leave the holding area when it emerges he has a high temperature
Doing it with style: But he managed to maintain his level of cool by leaving wearing his trousers in the trendy low slung stylistic mode
Strand-ed: The jolly chap decides to come to his new friends aid with some serious bribery
Bling it on: The corrupt soldier decides a couple of expensive diamond rings is worth risking an outbreak of zombie plague over
