Asked if he thinks the rapper and husband to Kim Kardashian would make a good president, Carson told ABC’s This Week program, Carson said: ‘Well I am certainly willing to give him a chance.

'We'll see. He’ll be able to explain things and see if he resonates with people.’

Ahead of his Yeezy show during New York Fashion Week recently, West said that he had been eager to get in touch with Carson since hearing him speak.

He told Vanity Fair: ‘As soon as I heard Carson speak, I tried for three weeks to get on the phone with him. I was like ‘this is the most brilliant guy’.’

And it appears he was eventually successful.

Carson said: ‘I did have an opportunity to talk with him. I was extremely impress with his business acumen. He knows a lot about business.’

The retired neurosurgeon added that he urged West and his peers to create ‘uplifting’ music to give ‘young women a sense of their value and young men a sense of responsibility’.

Carson recently sparked controversy after claiming a Muslim does not belong in the White House because Islam is ‘inconsistent’ with the U.S. Constitution.

In an interview with The Hill, he explained that his concerns were tied to a set of rules enforced in Islamic countries known as Sharia law.

'I do not believe Sharia is consistent with the Constitution of this country,' he said.

'Muslims feel that their religion is very much a part of your public life and what you do as a public official, and that’s inconsistent with our principles and our Constitution.'

His comments attracted heavy criticism from across the political spectrum

Despite this, a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released today revealed Carson has caught up to Donald Trump in the country’s first primary election state.

GOP frontrunner Trump has just a one percentage point lead over Carson among New Hampshire’s voters.

Carson’s 20 points is up 10 from the last NBC/WSJ poll in July.

Despite the small sample of just 256 Democrats and 230 Republics and margins of terror, pollsters believe the battle for the GOP nomination is a two-horse race.
