Fallout 4 trailer released: Teaser clips give hints at what the next game in the best-selling series will feature
- Fallout 4 will be the first video game in the series to be released since 2010
- The game appears to be set in Boston both before and after nuclear war
- Bethseda Softworks claims Fallout 4 is its most ambitious video game yet
- Release date still not confirmed but fans have seized on clues in the trailer
The hugely popular video game series Fallout franchise has confirmed its getting a new installment after developers released an official trailer.
Video game makers Bethseda Softworks posted a tantalising glimpse of what the world in the latest in the post-apocalyptic series will look like.
Fallout 4 is expected to launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC and has been long-awaited by fans of the video games since the last addition was released in 2010.

Power armour suits worn by characters in the Fallout games are one of the most iconic elements of the series but in the latest trailer this suit appears to be in a workshop. Some fans have speculated it may be possible to modify the armour in the new installment in the series with upgrades and new types of weapons
The release date has yet to be confirmed and more details about the game are expected to be released later this month.
But the trailer has already had die-hard fans of the first six installments speculating about what it means.
The trailer begins with a vintage style TV test screen that then pulls out to reveal a ruined suburban room in a similar introduction to the first Fallout game with music by 1930s vocal group The Ink Spots.
However, the trailer regularly seems to flash between the post-apocalyptic world and scenes from the world before the nuclear war, suggesting this may play a major role in the game's plot.
The appearance of a German Shepherd is thought to be Dogmeat - the dog that appeared in the original Fallout game in a reference to the post-apocalyptic film Mad Max.
The trailer suggests the dog will probably feature heavily in the game and may even be controllable.
Bethesda said the game is their most ambitious yet.
Todd Howard, game director at Bethesda, said: 'We know what this game means to everyone.
'The time and technology have allowed us to be more ambitious than ever.
'We've never been more excited about a game, and we can't wait to share it.'
Previous installments of Fallout have been controversial and drug references in Fallout 3 led to it being banned temporarily in Australia before its content was amended and given a 15+ age rating.
Fallout 4 is expected to have a 18+ rating but will also build on the 3D open-world environment that allowed players to roam freely around the scenery.
In the final scene a human with the numbers 111 on his back appears and talks to the dog. This is likely to be the main 'vault dweller' and the number 111 is said to relate to the numbered vault they escaped from. The games have previously had silent protagonists
There are also rumours the game would be set in Boston and the trailer, which features actor Ron Perlman as the narrator, gives away a few clues to confirm this, including a glimpse of the Bunker Hill Monument.
Even a ship that looks like the USS Constitution, the 18th century frigate that sits in dry dock in Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston appears to have been retrofitted with new space-age rocket boosters.
Fenway Park, the baseball ground of the Boston Red Sox also appears briefly and there are several baseball references throughout the trailer.
There are other references from previous games, however, to hint at what the new installment may hold in store, including a robot that appears in a pre-war flashback which is from Fallout 3.
There is a glimpse of the mysterious stranger in the hat that appears in previous Fallout Games
This German shepherd dog appears a lot in the trailer and is thought to be Dogmeat from earlier games
Flashbacks like this to the start of the nuclear war that created the Fallout world feature heavily in the trailer
The trailer starts with a close-up of a television screen before pulling out to reveal this ruined suburban house
Throughout the trailer there is a radio broadcast being played as someone tries to find out what is going on - likely to be shortly after the war that destroyed the world started.
Flash-back scenes also show residents panicking as the war starts and rushing to get to the Vaults that have been built to protect them.
And the trailer shows a series of potential enemies and other characters, including Protectrons, Ghouls and Deathclaw mutants.
The Fallout 4 world appears to be a much more colourful place with many references to baseball, seen above

There are some menacing characters seen patrolling the wastelands in the trailer of Fallout 4, like those above
Some fans have expressed excitement about the colourful landscapes and towns that appear in the trailer.
And on the transport front, there is heavy speculation Fallout 4 may take place in more than one location because of the amount of different air transport methods the trailer shows including blimps, vertibird and the pirate ship.
The final scenes of the trailer additionally give some hints of what else the game play might involve, with a suit of power armour in a workshop.
Strange mutants like this Deathclaw also seem to make a reappearance in the new Fallout Installment
This robot, known as a Protectron, is another recurring adversary from the series to appear in the trailer
Behind it is a bobbleheaded toy - something that featured in earlier installments as a collectible item during the game.
In the final scene a human character appears and pets the German Shepherd seen earlier and then speaks – something that previous characters in the Fallout Series have not done.
The game is expected to have its premier at the video games conference E3, which takes places in Los Angeles on 14 June.
Ryan King, Editor-in-Chief at gamesTM said: 'I think the best thing about the trailer is how Bethesda kept Fallout 4 under wraps for so long, then confidently released a three-minute trailer with almost no fanfare, which made the trailer feel like more of an event.
'We're so used to the modern marketing methods of quiet murmurings about announcements, teases here and there, then the eventual reveal being a quick glimpse of CGI…to have actual an actual gameplay trailer drop in our laps so suddenly shows how confident Bethesda must be about Fallout 4.
'And to do it right before E3? It's the game everyone will be talking about going into the biggest gaming event of the year.'
