Hillary Clinton enlisted the help of Steven Spielberg in an attempt to maker her seem more likeable, a new book claims.

The front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination was urged to seek help by her husband Bill Clinton - and he told her: 'Let’s ask Steven for help,' according to the book, which is called Unlikeable.

So their friend Spielberg provided acting coaches to help Hillary prepare for speeches.

But the sessions came to an abrupt end after Hillary took her frustrations out on a camera and knocked it off its tripod, according to an excerpt of the book published in the New York Post.

The Clintons were having drinks with friends when it was suggested that Hillary be coached on how to present herself during speeches, according to journalist Edward Klein, who wrote Unlikeable: The Problem with Hillary.

She allegedly said: 'I get $250,000 to give a speech, and these Hollywood jackasses are going to tell me how to do it!'

But Bill insisted and she reportedly agreed to the move to please him.

The former President is said to have told her: 'You can use Charlotte [Chelsea Clinton's daughter] to emphasize how you’re all about women and children. Now the challenge is to repackage you in 2016 as a strong but lovable older woman.'

He added that it was important for Hillary to come across more like former prime minister of Israel Golda Meir than the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Hillary then hired a cameraman - who was made to sign a confidentiality agreement - to film her in an otherwise empty room as she read out speeches.

The tapes were passed on to acting coaches supplied by Spielberg, whose long list of movies includes Saving Private Ryan, Lincoln and the Indiana Jones films.

Clinton, a former Secretary of State, meticulously studied the recordings too, noting her hand gestures, use of eye contact and tone of voice.

She reportedly found the process boring but her husband reminded her it could win her votes.

After viewing the videos, the experts said Hillary appeared 'irritated and bored'.

But she quickly dismissed their memos as 'notes from La-La Land'.

A couple of weeks after the lessons started, a friend noticed a camera in the Clinton's Whitehaven home in Washington and asked why it was there.

She reportedly remembers Hillary saying: 'My coaches tell me I’m supposed to pretend when I speak. Pretend that I actually like the audience.

'I’m supposed to force myself to keep a smile on my face. I’m supposed to think happy thoughts. To think of Chelsea or Charlotte or my mother.

'But not about Bill, because even though I love him to death, he makes me tear my hair out.'

However, once Hillary's campaign got under way it became obvious that the lessons were not working - as she still could not manage to maintain eye contact with audiences.

Hillary is said to have told a friend: 'I decided I had enough with the camera and the recordings and the coaches. I got so angry I knocked the f**king camera off its tripod.'

Also - according to the book - Clinton asked for exclusive use of an elevator when staying at Spielberg's corporate apartment in the Trump Tower during her run for Senate in 2000.

Spielberg had let her use his corporate apartment whenever she needed it.

Her alleged request for her own elevator was refused - and she had to share the lift with the other wealthy tenants of the skyscraper.
