He's made a welcome comeback to the big screen in chess drama Pawn Sacrifice this month.

And Tobey Maguire was no doubt celebrating the success of his critically-lauded performance in the new film by throwing a low-key gathering for all his famous friends.

Leading the celebrity arrivals at the original Spiderman actor's Los Angeles pad on Saturday was supermodel Cindy Crawford, 49, and her 14-year-old daughter Kaia Gerber, looking every inch the mirror image of her mother.

Cindy looked sensational in a casual maxidress with a loose neckline and a pretty purple floral pattern, carrying a suede clutch bag in one hand.

The cover girl brought her aspiring model Kaia along as her plus one, with the teen keeping her style simple in a black vest top and a lace skirt.

Putting in a surprise appearance at the party was Friends actress Courteney Cox, wearing a business chic red dress, cinched in at the waist with a leather belt.

Tobey also extended an invite to rock goddess Gwen Stefani and veteran actress Demi Moore, as well as DJ Samantha Ronson.

Newly-single Gwen - who split from her husband Gavin Rossdale this summer - looked cool as ever in an all-black look, rocking leather-look leggings and a simple vest.

The Voice judge accessoried her ensemble with gold chains and leather heels, as well as her trademark funky round shades.

She may have split with ex Gavin Rossdale, but Gwen Stefani seems to be doing just fine hanging out with her pals in Los Angeles. She seemed happy to be flying solo to this star studded party wearing dark denim skinny jeans and over sized Chanel sunnies.

The outfit looked demure being monotone, but Gwen is not one for dull, ensuring the look was brightened up with a slick of red lippy that popped next to the dark hue. Naturally, she topped it off with a pair of L.A.M.B sandals, a brand created by Gwen Stefani herself so it is no surprise the singer turned designer likes to show off the creations.

The motley crew of stars were seen chatting and laughing together outside Tobey's house as they prepared for the party.

Cindy was no doubt introducing her daughter Kaia to the A-list crowd since the teen is hoping to follow in her footsteps and conquer the runway in the same way her mother did back in the 90s.

The brunette beauty recently told Net-A-Porter that she worries about Kaia succumbing to the pressures of the modelling industry.

She said: 'Today, models are expected to be so tiny and I worry about that for her, because that was never my natural body type and I don’t think it’ll be hers either.

'Still, I’ll say to her: "Enjoy carbs while you can!" But she’ll be fine… She’s much more together and worldly than I was at her age.'
