  • She cries as she talks about being treated differently because of her weight
  • The Californian hopes to encourage other plus-size women to stop hiding

A plus-size woman has been selected to appear in MAC's new video campaign, an honour she hopes will inspire others to feel better about their bodies.

Luzmaria Vargas, from Anaheim, California, is the first of six people selected to front the beauty giant's MACnificent Me initiative, and her message to the world is clear.

'I don't have a gorgeous body, I don't think I'm beautiful,' she said during the emotional speech. 'But look at where I'm at. I don't need a gorgeous body.'

Of the whole experience, Luzmaria said, 'I'm never going to forget it. When my kids have their kids I'm going to tell them, hey, I was a model for Mac'

Luzmaria, who is seen getting glammed up and throwing shapes for the camera, continued: 'It's really the inside that counted. I don't need to be size two, skinny. I'm here.'

At one point in the video, she gets emotional talking about the way she is often treated because of her weight.

Luzmaria describes a party she once went to where she was made to take a photograph rather than appear in it.

She said: 'It hurts, because some people think [that] because you’re overweight, you don’t have feelings.'

Still, she hopes that because she was selected to appear in the campaign, others will have the courage to be proud of their bodies.

'I know there are so many women out there that won't express themselves for the fact that they're overweight, but if I did it they can all do it,' she said.

'I hope that this helps someone out there tucked in a room, who doesn't want to go out and show themselves. So just go for it.'
